Does anybody here know why the whistleblower protections that are supposedly in place don't apply to Edward Snowden? I get it that he divulged top secret information but shouldn't such a transgression be voided when the top secret information is that the NSA is illegally spying on Americans? Isn't this just the type of situation that whistleblower protections are there for?

Because the Act did not apply to him:

Snowden, Manning and Assange exposed the crimes of government.

That makes them very unpopular in Washington. Considering there is no rule of law in this country today, the government can do as it pleases, and many people enable such law-breaking.

Liberty dies to thunderous applause, and we have the government we deserve.

The lesson is... do not question our government. They are our masters and any dissenting opinion will be crushed. We are modern day serfs., ..

Assange became a Russian operative under the control of Putin. Snowden is now in Moscow under the control of Putin. Doe you see a pattern there?

No he didn't.

nonsense.

Bull****.

Lies?

CIA Director Pompeo Denounces WikiLeaks As 'Hostile Intelligence Service' : The Two-Way : NPR

President Donald Trump offered a pardon through an intermediary to Julian Assange if the WikiLeaks chief agreed to say that Russia was not involved in hacking emails from Democrats during the 2016 presidential election, a lawyer for Assange reportedly told a court in London on Wednesday.

Assange’s lawyer Edward Fitzgerald made that claim during a hearing related to the U.S. request to extradite Assange from the United Kingdom to face more than a dozen criminal charges in the United States, according to The Daily Beast news site.

Fitzgerald referred in that hearing to a statement from Jennifer Robinson, another lawyer for Assange, saying that then-Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, R-Calif., told Assange that, “on instructions from the president, he was offering a pardon or some other way out, if Mr. Assange ... said Russia had nothing to do with the DNC [Democratic National Committee] leaks,” The Daily Beast reported.

Sure, and Bill Clinton did not have sexual relations with that woman. :doh

You are most excellently indoctrinated. Casey's misinformation efforts worked extremely well on you.

Whistleblower protections don't apply to spies.

From my perspective, Edward Snowden is an American hero of the Nth magnitude. The biggest tragedy of his story is how underreported the media has treated his revelations of government criminality and violations of our rights as citizens. And why the right-wing-nuts, who pay so much lip service to protecting out constitutional rights, aren't screaming for his charges to be dropped so he can come back home to a ticker tape parade.

So true and utterly sickening. Who would have ever thought there would be citizens applauding the dismantling of our Constitutionhal rights? When the founding fathers put the checks and balances in place, it was with the assumption that there weren't going to be civil rights masochists.

Because he divulged top secret information. There is a reason it was classified. Just because he didn't like the facts, doesn't get him off the hook.

I got as far as "Considering there is no rule of law in this country today" before I realized you weren't dealing from a full deck.

The claim that righties "...aren't screaming for his charges to be dropped so he can come back home to a ticker tape parade" gives you irrefutable evidence that he's no "hero". The lefties, however, LOVE him.

Should it though? What if he discovered that the government was grinding human babies into dog food? That's top secret information, so don't do or say anything? And by the way, "he" is not the only one who didn't like the facts, not by a damn sight.

You offer Lyin' Mike statements and expect to be taken seriously?

Is anyone in Govt. not a liar to you? I gave you a Trump appointee so you could see it is bipartisan. All our intelligence agencies also agree the Wikileaks is owned by the GRU.

You are not thinking clearly as usual. Has Wiikileaks EVER once revealed embarrassing secrets about Russia?

If you had been keeping up, you would know that almost everything the government does is classified. It don't need no stinkin' court with the Unitary Executive in full sway. Congress abdicated power with AUMF and only 1 person in the House objected.

Exposing the crimes of government is NEVER a crime, it is obligation fulfilled. Those men should receive commendations, but instead they are prosecuted.

That so many in the country support such criminal action speaks volumes. We do have the government we deserve.

I think there were a few, minor events. Nothing like Collateral Murder.

No Wikileaks has not ever revealed a single embarrassing "secret" about about the most corrupt nation in the world because they are owned by them. You seem to be too BTW.

That's hard to buy, that he's owned by Russia. I've followed his story from the beginning, read 2 of his books, seen numerous video interviews and more. I've never seen any indication he favored Russia over anybody else.

On the material they have published, they have never been wrong. Assange has more dignity and honor in his little finger than any POTUS had in his entire body.

You are a very poor judge of character. Assange is a consummate liar proven multiple times.
