Trump commutes Blagojevich's sentence and grants clemency to 10 others

That is just asinine and juvenile. Don't think that I haven't noticed the attempt to move the goal posts. You just demonstrated you Don't know what the rule of law means. Merely claiming "yes I do" is par for the course. You have demonstrated nothing but a contempt for intellect and honest discussion.

The rule of law* means a lot to those of us who actually care about justice. It even protects miscreants like Stone and Trump. The only reason Trump hasn't already been indicted is because the rule of law protect him while in office. You might think about that before you spout more nonsense.

* Overview - Rule of Law (US Courts, educational resources).

So AGAIN you’ve failed to support your argument that Trump granting clemency is somehow illegal.

Go figure out your argument then come back and present it. Keep your silly insults and pettiness to yourself. I’m interested in adult conversation, not your silly schoolyard nonsense.

You may be right. However, this is matter for a democratically elected legislature to handle. The executive just changing the law, and in specific cases no less, to the exclusion of others, is the hallmark of corrupt authoritarianism.

What law did Trump change!

Nope. It's clear you have no interest in conversation or understanding. If that we're true you, you'd quit trying to change the argument. Be well. ("Adult conversation..." such a kidder...)

I haven’t changed the argument. You failed to support your initial claim, and still continue to fail.

This country is in a full-on crisis. We wondered what that would feel like? This is it.

Feels pretty good... unemployment is down, wages are up and Liberals are crying their ****ing asses off over imagined trauma.

So your claim is that I want to let a child rapist off easy? Is there no limit to your intellectual dishonesty? I think not!

I would never say that about anybody, or you... BUT, there is a lot of crying about Trump by people while truly bad things are happening out there.

He served 8 years... longer than some murderers...

Any number of white collar crimes, of any scope, are compared to a murder sentence? Nonsense.

Did you forget you raised the issue?
Presidential pardon power is explicitly spelled out in the Constitution. How is a President exercising that power not the “rule of law”?
I admit, I opined it was a stupid question. I still think that. I then gave you a half-dozen scenarios where a pardon could be tainted with illegality. I never claimed a pardon, without more, was a violation - but that's why it is a stupid question. As I noted, having the authority does not equal it being done for a lawful purpose. I then gave you an explicit definition and description of the rule of law, because it was apparent your weren't following it. You still aren't. I cannot make up for your lack of acumen on the topic or your stubbornness.

I get it. You were insulted. Get over it.

Yeah, he should get time but this is an interesting read:

'''Erosion of public trust''': The real reasons why Rod Blagojevich was sentenced to prison

Sounds like he got hosed a bit.
Consider that he is one of multiple governors sentenced to prison in Illinois. Its about time those corrupt mother ****ers got the message---you do corrupt, underhanded betrayals of the public trust and you go to prison for a very long time. They should be held to a higher standard, they wield a lot of power.

I don't have any problem with that... but in the spirit of this thread... what did Trump do that was wrong... that other Presidents have not done themselves?

Considering the situation in Illinois and how bad the corruption has gotten, Trump made an error that insults the citizens of Illinois. Blagojevich deserved that sentence when he tried to sell the Senate seat of the President of the United States at the time.

I am sure that every President that grants clemency insults some group of Americans... Trump did nothing different.

Not usually an entire state. He undermined the only thing that has worked to get corruption out of the Governor's chair in Illinois for decades.

more like a California rolling stop....

As has already been noted, abuse of that authority is punishable, and could also be grounds for another impeachment. For example, if it came out that the pardon was in exchange for a hefty campaign donation,... talk about cockamamie. Or half- cockamamie

a violater, eh?

when you've come back with something that has actually taken place and not hypothetical hysteria, by all means...

Until then, take your cockamamie California stop and turn it into a Chicago tail and keep it moving...

ROFL. It's so funny you think you're clever... Ta ta.

I like it when we can find agreement. I'll only add that people keep forgetting, or ignoring, that that was only one of the corrupt schemes he was convicted for. Multiple offenses led to a higher sentence.

True enough. Blago was also convicted of extorting a hospital and a race track owner.
