Thomas Callaway committing sexual battery on TV reporter Alex Bozarjian on camera.

12/14/19
The man accused of slapping a news reporter on the backside while she was reporting live in Savannah, Georgia, last week has been arrested and charged with sexual battery, according to her employer, CNN affiliate WSAV. Thomas Callaway turned himself in at the Chatham County Sheriff's Office on Friday and was released on a $1,300 bond, according to a report by WSAV. Callaway is accused of hitting Savannah reporter Alex Bozarjian on her backside as she was reporting at the Enmarket Savannah Bridge Run and he was running in the event. The incident was caught on camera, and Bozarjian's reporting was momentarily interrupted by her stunned reaction. Bozarjian filed a sexual battery complaint with the Savannah Police Department. The report says she "described the smack as a 'smack and grab,' advising that he also grabbed her buttocks in the same motion. She stated she felt a sharp sting after the smack and advised that it caused her to pause during the broadcast." Bozarjian's attorney, Gloria Allred, provided a brief statement to WSAV Friday saying, "Alex is looking forward to justice in this case." "To the man who smacked my butt on live TV this morning: You violated, objectified, and embarrassed me," Bozarjian said on Twitter. "No woman should EVER have to put up with this at work or anywhere!! Do better."

During an interview with WSAV on Tuesday, Callaway apologized to Bozarjian saying, "Alex, I am sorry. I did not mean to do this. I think you're a great, great asset to this community and to the local media and to the national media. You're very talented. You're an amazing woman from what I've gathered, and I apologize." Callaway has been banned from registering for all Savannah Sports Council owned races, according to council director Rob Wells. The station said in a statement that it is supporting Bozarjian and prioritizes the safety of its employees.

I think Callaway is only sorry now because he was arrested and charged. He is reportedly a Youth Minister and a Boy Scout leader.

An apparent cheap sex thrill artist, this makes me wonder how many other female backsides he smacked or grabbed during the Savannah marathon event.

And just for legal clarity, putting your unwanted hands on someone is simple battery, not simple assault. Doing so to the opposite gender is sexual battery. Doing so with malicious harm is aggravated [sexual] battery, a felony. Sexual battery "first-offense" in Georgia is a misdemeanor of a high nature, punishable by up to 12 months in jail and a fine of up to $5,000. Do this again and you're looking at 5 years in prison.

There are a lot of women that would have simply laughed that off, but the look on her face clearly says she's not one of those women. It seems to be inbred in many men that the lack of control of their hormones gives them license to do such a thing to any women. Without a doubt there will be people here that will say 'hey, that's not a big deal, she's making too much of it'. Yes, it's a big deal 'for some women' and men need to respect the fact that they can't know who is going to laugh off a smack on her butt by a perfect stranger and who isn't. Maybe if his balls were rubbed with a cheese grater as punishment, the impulse to smack another woman on her ass in the future will get a second thought from him and force him to control that impulse.

He shouldn't have but I think they are making too much out of this.

He needs to be killed. I don't condone his action, but clearly he has failed to incorporate the woke attitudes all citizens must adhere to.

As a result, he must be eliminated from the human race.

Look at that guy’s face in the still shot.....

Simple assault, $100 fine. “Go home don’t do it again”. Next!

I see hundreds of hours of community service in his future and the maximum fine. I don't think he's going to be a youth minister much longer. His denomination requires ethics training, so he absolutely knew better. I am very sorry that a silly, reckless impulse will cost him as much as it's going to, but tenor of the times....

I would never smack a girl on the but like that.

What happened to simply being a gentleman?

What evidence do you have that the swat was a "sex thrill"? So tired of people taking this thing beyond reason. What I got from the various news report is she is young, 22? Not much experience in the world.

I do agree that one should not do what the runner did to her. imo, it was a prank that she did not like being the brunt of it.

Good; I hope he gets hammered.

Keep your f@cking hands to yourself in the future.

This is good news.

If smacking a stranger on the butt on camera while she was doing her job didn't qualify for the misdemeanor charge, then that law needed to be taken off the books because it was just a mockery and it would have greenlit men slapping women on the butt whenever they felt like it.

Good luck getting a date in the future?

Lets see what the courts rule before making that determination.

What he did was inappropiate and there isnt any good excuse for it but it was not the crime of the century and the guy did come forward and voluntarily turn himself in.

Personally i think banning him from participating in future events is an overreaction on the sponsors part but im sure they are playing to the mee too crowd. It would be interesting to see how they would react if nobody participated in their future events, in protest of the ban.

I do however think it would be entirely appropriate for him to be sentenced to a long weekend in jail and 6 months unsupervised probation. Anything beyond that is excessive, imo.

No, it's not the crime of the century and it won't be treated like the crime of the century in the courts. It's a misdemeanor. He was never going to get the death penalty. But some people have been acting like him facing any legal consequences for his crime would be the death of the family and society.

Did he "come forward" before he was identified? Honestly asking ... I don't know.

Except its not the tenor of the times. Just this year we had a similiar incident and this is what the courts ruled.

A Women’s March participant who was filmed grabbing Infowars reporter Owen Shroyer by the crotch was found guilty of misdemeanor sex abuse.

The D.C. Superior Court ruling, which came down Tuesday, orders Catholic University of America student Isabel O’Shaughnessy to serve five days in jail and six months of unsupervised probation.

To give this guy anything harsher than what that young lady recieved would be excessive and misandrist. They are both guility of essentially the same crime.

I believe thats what i read, he turned himself in and i agree he should face some legal consequences for his crime. I just dont think he should get hundreds of hours of community service, weeks in jail, heavy monetary fines or any of those type things. It was a dumb prank thats all.

Attention, dudes.

If you are ever unsure of how to treat a female in public, or unsure if you should do something involving them, ask yourself a very simple question.

Would it be OK if someone did that thing to your sister?
Would you do it if your mom were watching?

The way I saw the video is she was doing her stand up and was getting in the way of the running lane. The people running for fun as opposed to win at all cost were hamming it up and having fun for the camera and he probably got a little too in the moment without intending to offend or harass or anything else her. She lost her composure on camera and then decided to play victim rather than appear as if it was her fault. That is the way I see it at least.

Have you considered carrying a sign that reads: "I support rape."

The man committed a crime against her.

None of that is her fault.

Some people think she should have been gracious and said, "That's okay, I forgive you, I won't press charges."

But others think he shouldn't have committed the crime. I'm one of those people and I am very glad that the city of Savannah or Chatham County saw fit to enforce their law against that behavior.

So you are considering the swat on the butt is equal to "rape". Prime example of over reacting.

Some people are correct and others will pursue the victim narrative.
