Police tactics questioned after UPS truck police chase ends in deadly shootout

Questioned?

The overwhelming use of force is being questioned after a chase in Florida ended in a deadly shootout with police. It started when two men, who the FBI said were already wanted for two similar heists near Miami, robbed a jewelry store and hijacked a UPS van.

After a 23-mile chase, the officers opened fire when the gunmen shot at them, leaving drivers in rush-hour traffic panicked and scrambling.

The two men who police said robbed the jewelry store were killed. But so was 70-year-old Richard Cutshaw, who was waiting in his car at the intersection. The UPS driver who was taken hostage, Frank Ordonez, was also killed.

If you watched the video of this, you can only shake your head. The reckless cops literally put the lives of every single person at that traffic stop in jeopardy. Some of these supposed good guys even used the cars with civilians inside of them as human shields. Disgraceful.

It's like the wild west days when everyone was carrying a gun and people were caught in crossfires. The robbers, could have gotten away with some jewelry. Big deal, that's why jewelers are insured up to their eyeballs. The lives of 2 innocent bystanders aren't worth the price of some jewelry. The chase went on for 23 miles? Doesn't the metropolis of Miami have more than a couple of police cars? Don't they have two-way radios that they could have called for backup to cut off the UPS truck further up the road? Twenty three miles of chase? And whoever is responsible for shooting and killing a pedestrian and the UPS driver will get a 'stern talking to' and desk duty for a few months.

Bill Barr at a ceremony honoring the work of law enforcement at the Justice Department said that the communities they serve have to start showing "respect" and "If communities don't give that support and respect, they might find themselves without the police protection they need." What the hell is that? Is that Bill Barr's personal threat to entire communities that law enforcement will not protect them any longer if there's criminals or punks that don't respect police? This whole country is being turned upside down by men like Trump and Bill Barr.

Your ignorance of the wild west is about on par with your knowledge of today.

Gun fights were very rare in the "wild wild west" as you call it.

Also: I doubt those cops were thinking about Barr's comments during a gun fight. :lamo

Do you practice this stuff, or does it just come natural to you?

Your hollow words are echoed in the well of deep, dark desperation.

So, today is worse than the Wild West. Is that your point?

The hijackers were the most idiotic of this entire incident. They put not only innocent lives in danger, but also the welfare of the LEOs for responding to their ridiculous criminality.

I bet if the hijackers were alive today and they were asked their feelings towards law enforcement they would be similar to the defiant, boundless attitudes of the Lying Libs.

Only criminals have a distaste for the law. Hence why they knowingly choose to break it.

Play stupid games with trigger happy cops, win stupid prizes.

I hope the rest of the cops who didn't engage in such a reckless firefight are safe.

Uh, they were criminals. Why would you expect them to act any differently? Putting innocent people's lives in danger is what criminals do.

I, however, have every right in the world to expect my cops not to act like criminals. I know this sails over the heads of dumb people. But...it is what it is. Right?

Then please explain to us in detail how law enforcement should have responded.

Ah so you don't expect them to abide by the laws of this county. Got it.

Sounds like the ridiculous illogic black and brown people. So quick to check cops but not their own behavior. The facts still remain that most people commit crimes against each other than the few (especially black on black crime), isolated cases of cops overreaching their power against civilians.

Not making use of occupied civilian vehicles as cover is a good place to start.

But in general, the decision to engage in a shootout in a crowded intersection was an idiotic one. The thieves were in possession of what, 440K worth of Jewelry and Amazon deliveries? Nothing even remotely worth putting the lives of other people in danger for.

The van in question doesn't have an unlimited supply of gas. It also has a tracker installed on it. What was the point of forcing a confrontation?

Absolutely! Jesse James and Wyatt Earp would be no match for todays inner city thugs.

Damn right.

The Lying Lib will never address the years of astronomical shooting statistics between thugs where innocent lives were captured in the crossfire, in so-called Chiraq, which is a Lying Lib controlled major metropolitan city.

Way more than any rare, isolated police shooting.

That's one of the worst attempts to deflect from the topic at hand ever seen. Reminder: this is about cops starting a shootout on a busty street.

Like I said. Failure to address more pertinent issues at hand instead of an isolated law enforcement shooting that will be dealt with by the court.

So, today is worse than the Wild West. Is that your point?

Yes. In terms of shootings, today is worse than the Wild West and Im talking about the real Wild West not the Hollywood Wild West.

Typically not. But, what happened in Miami sure did look like Dodge City.

Dodge City was quite tame during the days of the Old West, contrary to how the movies portray it. During the golden age of the American Cowboy, from about 1865 to the early 1900s, there was a total of only six shootouts in Dodge City.

Your hollow words are echoed in the well of deep, dark desperation.

no, he is being truthful. While I see the cops tactics in this incident as probably falling short of ideal, the fact is the "wild west" was hardly what you think it was based on watching too many Clint Eastwood movies

He's probably learned everything he knows about wild west gun fights from Hollywood.

you mean John Wayne didn't take out 300 Apache braves with two six shooters?

could some of the critics of the police action please explain to us the better tactics the cops could have employed to deal with the perps and their hostage

still waiting for you to share with us the tactics the police should have alternatively employed to extricate themselves and the civilians and the hostage out of harm's way
don't bother with again explaining what they should not have done. tell us exactly what they should have done instead
