Husband 'shoots his estranged wife and her new boyfriend dead in the parking lot of an Oklahoma Walmart before turning the gun on himself when confronted by an armed bystander'

It turns out that the shooter was confronted by an armed bystander and, at that point, opted to take his own life.

If I remember correctly, there were a few concerns around here that the new law allowing unlicensed concealed carry in OK would result in scads of civilian deaths due to "hero" gun toting cowboys shooting up the streets in a testosterone fueled attempt to "save" the streets. Well, maybe it won't work out quite that way.

I will further note that this story came from the UK. If it's on CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS or even FOX I haven't seen it.

Why does no one ever talk about the real solution that the pro gun rights people are offering. They're basically saying that everyone should be armed, from 18 to 95 years old, so that shooters will be too intimidated to take someone else's life or that those gobs of people that will be armed and can stop the shooters. With no friendly fire killing anyone or anything.

Otherwise is everyone really safe at the pool or the parking lot of the nail salon? And God knows humans are perfect and there aren't any accidental shootings.

If I had to guess I'd say the guy intended to do himself all along. Good thing there wasn't a gunfight. A year or so ago there was a story about another Wal-Mart where a woman was nervous about the guy on the sidewalk behind her so she drew her gun and turned and confronted him. I thought at the time what a bad situation it would have been if he had been armed and drew his own weapon.
Anyway, this sounds like a tragic but not uncommon thing, sort of thing that happens now and then pretty much everywhere.
I notice in the story that Wal-Mart had or was going to ban openly carrying a gun in the store. Does that mean concealed carry is allowed? Is open carry considered provocative?

Well at least no kid involved but otherwise just as I suspected--a domestic situation

Wonder if it was a domestic situation where they met at Walmart to exchange the child for visitation....

nope, people like me, want felons caught with firearms charged federally and given hard time. Liberal groups such as the ACLU and NAACP opposed such a strategy when the Bush administration tried to implement such a program. we also note that most gun banners seem to support a society where the only armed individuals in most disputes are the criminals.

and, like i said, your solution is to arm everyone from 18 to 95yo to stop the gun violence.

bravo for finding a group (criminals who commit gun related crimes) that guns right advocates don't want to arm. that's really going out on a limb.

you're lying again. I never said that. Why do you tell lies when you cannot find a single comment from me that supports the nonsense you spew?

If the plan isn't to have people armed (to stop criminals) then what is the plan?

Wow

Yep... because there sure were no shootings back in the old west when lots of people carried their guns around...

As usual, this hot-button issue has carried beyond the thoroughly refuted OP. The OP is a lie. The troll, though, worked.

You would think huh...

But instead of say.. doing things like mental health that would prevent murder suicides...

We keep the spotlight on the firearms when all objective research indicated that firearms are not the problem.

Wow

How about getting at the issue and improving mental health so that the fellow doesn't become so distraught/angry depressed so that he doesn't.. murder his wife (by any means)….nor kill himself (by any means)

Seems like a pretty good plan to me... OR.. do we just not care if the man kills his wife with a knife or hammer,, and then kills himself? Only those murder suicides done with firearms matter to you?
