I'm not much of a fan of stings, but they are legal. Problem I have with them is we usually nab idiots with them and not actual bad guys.

Case in point:

FBI arrests alleged white supremacist accused of planning to bomb a Pueblo synagogue - CNN

Richard Holzer had brought a knife and a mask to a motel room and was examining inert pipe bombs prepared by undercover agents ...

According to the complaint, Holzer talked about killing Jews in forums online and shared photos of himself casing a synagogue in Pueblo. He described himself as a skinhead, and shared pictures of himself with other social media users with guns and knives alongside white supremacist symbols, the complaint says.

He also said he paid a "witch doctor" $70 to put arsenic in the water pipes of the synagogue and "hex" the place last year, according to the complaint.

Sheesh

I continue to be grateful for our intelligence community's ongoing efforts to stop wannabe terrorists such as these before they can strike.

I'd have to agree that the guy needs to be off the street. But, sheesh. Talk about going after the low hanging fruit. :doh

At least this guy was more active in trying to do terror acts then the Liberty City 7, who were actively pushed by the feds to even get bombs (inert)

They all seem like winners

Yes, the LC7 are a perfect example of bull**** sting operations. The guy in the op at least seemed to have been seeking out trouble. The Florida crew seems to have been a harmless bunch trouble sought out.

It sometimes seems the government seeks these types of people to scare the general public and of course promote their hard work keeping the public safe

Money flows their way too.

About 30 years ago, the local PD set up a sting in one of the bars I frequented. They used honeypots, hot chicks who sought out cocaine from unsuspecting idiots. They were so obvious, it was funny (dive bar, suddenly riddled with super-fine babes, dressed to the nines--yeah, that's likely ). But, they nailed quite a few drunken men.

Some time later, I learned that the locals needed cash for a drug task force. Well, they had to prove the locality had a drug problem first. That worked too.

The FBI is likely the biggest organizer of terrorist attacks in this country, their usual (but not consistent) practice of stopping them before they get too far notwithstanding.

Yeah, I too would like to know if the guy they "stopped" actually planned to do anything other than follow up on what they suggested he do.

I expect the FBI would have had to suggest targets, do the planning, fund his travel to get their, and stand by him as the "plan " was enacted.

Given he paid a witch doctor to do bad stuff, indicates he is not playing with a full deck

The FBI is likely the biggest organizer of terrorist attacks in your country, huh...lol... Whew. Ok. It's like you guys don't even want to be taken seriously anymore.

Again, from my experience in and around shady characters, I heard a story about one poor chump that really grabbed my attention.

Allegedly, some LEO agent offered him a large amount of drugs at some ridiculously low cost--a price so low, it probably would have even raised my interest, had I been the unfortunate schmuck they approached. Anyway, it gets better.

The guy was a complete loser. So, he had no money and stood no chance of ever scraping together the paltry sum the cops were asking.

"No problem," they apparently said. "We got ya covered."

Long story short, they literally gave him the drugs and cuffed his ass the minute he took possession of it. To his great relief, it was only weed. So, I heard he only served a few months in jail for the deed, which is probably a fair sentence for gross stupidity.

He's referring to sting operations. And, yes. The FBI does have a propensity to organize a lot of "would be" criminal activity, anything from chat room sex seeing fake teens to bumbling bombers who would probably blow themselves up if some LEO agent wasn't holding their hand.

And because he had a crappy lawyer, he was unable to get off a clear entrapment.
Equality before the law does not exist in the US

That's a hell of a lot different than suggesting the FBI organize terrorist attacks...lol... Good grief.

Sometimes the context gets lost in the translation. I'm sure he meant what I wrote and not what he actually said.

Yes that's what I meant. Though it's worth noting that they don't always manage to stop the crimes they encourage before they come to fruition, e.g. the WTC bombing.

Fast and Furious might have been a better example. WTC gets a little too CT for this sub-forum.

Well if not caught this low hanging fruit cake may one day learn that a pipe bomb is easier to make than koolaid a d actually kill someone...

Yip when I worked for the DNR, I was on the river on a holiday hanging on a beach. I noticed our wardens undercover boat up the island aways. So I put down my beer and went over to say hi. He was there with two fish and wildlife wardens and a count sheriff.

They were running a sting where a jet ski with a very hot chick in a bikini would drive by a boat full of people yell and cheer at them holding up a drink in a can cooler.

When all the people in a boat would raise their drinks in kind, they were busted...

odds are it would be himself.

True, you gotta be a complete moron to blow yourself up with a simple pipe bomb, however it seems this guy fit the description of a true moron...
