How do you deal with cackling hens in the office space?

There's one crucial difference between me and others who are similarly situated. I get what I want out of life by any means necessary, but have sense enough to avoid counterproductive measures. I have attended support groups where most of the guys had no job, no access to women, given up, with only SSDI for money. If one looks at it as a puzzle with zero regard for other people's feelings, one can get what one wants. I tell these guys the following:

1) There are millions of companies. If you get fired every three months, you'll never run out of companies to work for: Keep trying and don't give up. Get the most out of laws that protect you. Memorize them and use their enforcement mechanism as needed. Remember that lawsuit proceeds pay the rent just as well as wages.

a) Study job listings and constantly develop know-how to be qualified for more and more jobs
b) Prefer contract work over direct hire. There's less pressure to conform to things that you'll never understand

2) Learn Spanish. You will be successful South of the border. You'll be the Big Gringo and instantly have status.

3) You are the most important person in the world. Everybody matters less than you do. Stop caring what people think, only concern yourself with written rules.

4) You owe the world NOTHING.

5) Women at work will ALMOST ALWAYS punish you for not having abilities that your brain will never process. They think people without empathy deserve to suffer! (Ironic isn't it). Just don't interact with them.

Society has treated you as disposable; return the favor. Take as much as you can from people and give as little as you can get away with.

You see, sweetie, I'm a grizzled old man. I have been through the wringer and know how to avoid being screwed over. I have SUCCESSFULLY stayed employed over thirty years at professional pay rates. I know how to make it costly to **** with me.

I'm 59, so spare me age=wisdom crapola. I do not find your advice 'wisdom' in the least and hope that most younger men would avoid it.

OTOH, I still make a top salary in the IT industry along with the youngsters, had a good 13 yr relationship and never felt the need to marry, so ALL I have I earned myself, and this is me a couple summers ago:

No flies on this "girl".

If you weren't a cubicle bunny, you could shut your office door.

Those don't cut it for me. The shooting range style earmuffs are what's needed for no more than three hours per day.

A real man deals with his problems by disciplining himself instead of trying to control others.

You have a problem and are trying to force your needs on others...weak.

Alas, even Microsoft no longer provides individual offices to employees. Used to be that way, but now, they have moved everyone out of them into the fancy, high-end cubicles with 'focus rooms' cell phone soundproof booths (very cool actually, like out of Get Smart), and other collaborative amentities.

So cackling hens are a collaborative amenity?

Riggghtt! You would rather they stay dependent, incels receiving a government check with a meaningless life. I'm happy when I see these guys plus a gal here and there throw off their chains. It pains me beyond words to see any of them "just take it". Greta Thunberg should be an obvious example that girls can get away with more.

Your advice is no recipe for fixing that and certainly no recipe for happiness in a relationship.

They achieve their stated goals.

Nope! "Facts not in evidence your Honor."

You have demonstrated little grasp of the reality of people's roles in life and your "advice" remains successful strictly in your own mind or experience.

You're a prime example of why I handle things that way I do: Abrupt, official and with only enough communication to satisfy the legal requirements.

Once again, we give thanks.

ADD: A distraction-free work environment.

Even if that tool were not available: What kind of executive idiot directs people to produce software and select the correct series of statistical equations in a barroom environment?

Perhaps they will simply find that you are not a good employee and fire you due to your inability to complete your work in a reasonable working environment.

Perhaps, maybe a one percent chance. It would almost be a better outcome, likely resulting in a settlement equal to one year's pay.

Well as a high-falutin' feminist, tell me one thing: Why do guys on the autistic side of the spectrum get ignored (which sometimes is an improvement), while the gals are approached and actively tormented? The solution is the same, but I found that interesting. If all American women were like Temple Grandin, things would be much better.

You seem to think all of us, regardless of gender don't belong in society.

Once again, we give thanks.

I think many prefer you keep it that way.

Methinks the op listens to too much Jordan Peterson

I have an answer in mind, but I want to see other's answers first before I chime in.

Scenario: Imagine retracing your steps through 15,000 lines of code as a final verification to make sure you haven't missed handling any application state. There's not only all those lines of code, but all the entity relationships.

Half way through these hens start cackling things like "My husband had better have done the dishes when I get home or someone is sleeping on the couch." That's just an example, but it can be any mindless non-work-related conversation.

What would you do to remedy such a scenario?

I have usually been blessed with a private office and a door I could shut when I needed serious focus and concentration on a work project. Otherwise I am a pretty social person who can just usually tune out the uninteresting stuff and/or multi task in my had. Given neither of those options, I might ask the boss for a quieter work space where I could focus. I would NOT have that discussion with my coworkers, however, as I don't see that being helpful to your work relationships/environment.

That's fine and dandy until being summoned to appear at proceedings involving them or other adverse official action. So you agree it's better to just hammer away with legal proceedings than talk things out? We seem to be on the same page. One good approach is to blindside people so that they are not prepared to respond to the official action against them.

I think many prefer you keep it that way.

I believe in women having equal rights with men. Does that make me a feminist? Otherwise, I am not one.

So...please answer the question in bold.

And I never ever dismissed or disrespected those on the spectrum. And I spent about 20 minutes personally with Miss Grandin less than a year ago, she was speaking thru me to converse with a very triggered son of a friend of mine who has Aspergers. And we were discussing the very IT working environment discussed here in this OP and helping him cope with it.

Also, Temple would disagree with your sentence in blue. She also spoke to us emphatically about the positive use of medication to assist those on the spectrum ease into social environments. She still does use it and we were trying to get my friend's son to try them again. It can be very difficult to find the right med and balance and the experimenting can be unpleasant. The son was very resistant to trying again and she continued to try and convince him.

So you see? Your ability for critical thinking, so overwhelmed by bias, has failed you again. All you do is project your (admitted) poorly adapted social perspective. I am all for supporting people on the spectrum in society. And his older brother, also on the spectrum (and both are legally blind) has a fantastic position in R&D at Microsoft.

What if someone thinks the social environment is more trouble than it's worth, preferring to make all interaction be done on a transactional basis: Give something; get something. When that get something doesn't happen, invoke that knowledge that such person is a bad investment.

Why dont you answer any direct questions? (That could explain alot of your issues in the workplace.)

I am not going to answer until you at least answer my question in bold.

Noise cancelling headphones

It depends. If you support the corporate messaging that specifically applauds women, but not men, you would qualify as a feminist.
