Cop plants meth during traffic stops on a regular basis

Why should the people of Jackson County, Florida be liable for anything?

They need to pay restitution to those harmed. Take it out of the pensions of the police commissioner and the City council.

It's mainly the cameras. Cops cover for each other almost no matter what. Only a small fraction will do the right thing no matter what. The bulk go along with whatever, which means for every bad apple there are several enablers minimum.

I think they do cover for each other but I think it would be hard for someone to cover consistently for this lunatic and those like him. But cameras definitely.

Agreed. The cop did not act under their authority. He and anyone aware of what he was doing should be held culpable.

Yeah, there should be a sentence multiplier if you're a cop - like, 5x whatever time the judge gives you, if you commit the crime from behind the pretense of upholding the law. Hell, apply it to judges and politicians too, for that matter. People need to be able to trust the police. When that trust is broken, society is not far behind.
I have always msintained the position that people who entrusted to make the laws and enforce them should always recieve the maximum penality when convicted.

In this particular case i would like to see this cop recieve the max penality for each count and run his sentence consecutively? (one after the other not all at the same time).

He should be shown zero tolerance for frsming people.

Where was he getting the meth that he planted? From his station's evidence locker? Yet, not one of his co-workers ever noticed? Or was he buying on the street, but not busting the dealers?

So, who should have known this cop was buying - or stealing - drugs?

Rack up those drug busts to get a promotion. Sociopath narcissist.

A sociopath narcissist enabled by an irrational and harmful government policy.

Sadly, many people have been convicted because a cop planted something on him/her.

I can never forget reading this story:

In the 1970s or 1980s (I forget when), a vice cop in Los Angeles wanted an excuse to close down a gay sex club. Since he could not find a legal reason, he simply bought a can of beer, entered the sex club, and then announced that he was closing down the club because he had found a can of beer in a place without a liquor permit!

Sadly, many cops have planted evidence and then gone on to a very financially comfortable retirement.

Of course, planting evidence occurs in ALL countries.

Sad, too, is the fact that we have so many bad people in this country that cops are a NECESSARY evil.
