Cop plants meth during traffic stops on a regular basis

That's absurdly ****ed up and the video from a link in the story is pretty damning. Stuff like that makes every other cop's job 10x harder than it needs to be and utterly destroys public trust.

And people wonder why so many people don’t trust the police.

This is not an isolated incident, planting of evidence has been a problem in certain sections of the police for a long time and some of it was done in an incredible scale.

But don’t dare ask for greater police accountability though in terms of their things like this, use of lethal force, body cameras and police brutality, that is extremely anti-police...

Holy cow is this guy a scumbag. Should be in jail the rest of his life, no parole. I hope the law suits bankrupt Jackson county FL.

A Florida cop planted meth on random drivers, police say. One lost custody of his daughter.

Yeah, there should be a sentence multiplier if you're a cop - like, 5x whatever time the judge gives you, if you commit the crime from behind the pretense of upholding the law. Hell, apply it to judges and politicians too, for that matter. People need to be able to trust the police. When that trust is broken, society is not far behind.

Why should the people of Jackson County, Florida be liable for anything?

They hired him, gave him authority and failed to enforce standards and policies (ie Body Camera usage) that would have caught this scumbag long ago. There failures caused pain and suffering to a large number of people. The county needs to be held accountable, so that it will ensure it hires better people, and ensures the jobs the people it hires do better.

Without punishing the county, it can continue to hire scumbags that ruin peoples lives. The lawsuits will provide the required incentive to do better

Agreed that this officer is pretty bad, and it will make the jobs of other officers that much more difficult. Those are the ones that will have to deal with the suspicion. We apparently have a slew of victims out there that also had their lives forever changed, that of course deserves the highest attention.

However a "bankrupt Jackson county FL" is not the answer, what is the answer will come down to what they need to do in order to make this as right as they can by all these victims but they still have to deal with governance and services for Jackson county.

As for this officer... I doubt there will be much leniency no matter what his defense is. He is looking at decades if not his entire life by the indictment count as it stands today before the investigation is all said and done.

I guess the only reason would be if the county benefited from any property seizures that resulted
from the fraudulent traffic stops. They might then have motive to turn a blind eye to questionable statistics.

Hell, the possession charge alone should get him as much time as the entrapment.

Not only does this make all cops look bad, including the many good cops.. But now Florida will probably be forced to release just about anyone this moron came in contact with during his police career, which means many criminals that SHOULD be in jail, now might be released..

Not only did this slime ruin many lives but his actions will lead to increased distrust of the police along with real criminals being released. Once trust is lost it is difficult to get back. I think as a result body cameras should be mandatory and turned on. If not then no charges. Also searches should be done by more than 1 person. Imagine having your life turned upside down by this guy. Unreal.

We got a story breaking here locally, a cop shot and killed an unarmed guy laying on his stomach in a hotel hallway, he got fired (but not convicted). So a few months pass by and the police department rehires the guy assigns him to no duty, and he quits within a week.....so he could get his pension.

Cops take care of cops...

What a huge mess.

Every one who was arrested by this joker has just now been awarded a free get out of jail card.
Next will come the lawsuits against the county.

There will be guilty parties who could potentially be freed and able to sue the county.

What kind of welcoming party will they have for him in prison?

I am trying to understand the mindset of this guy as he approached victims knowing full well that he was about to destroy their lives. It reminds me of cold blooded murder in some ways.

The problem is the BS cop code where cops defend dirty cops no matter what, and are shunned if they report on dirty cop. So they don't do themselves any favors as these dirty cops get protection

Was that the one where he kept demanding the guy crawl towards him and threatening to kill him if he doesn't listen? That was the most appalling thing. Hope that guy gets what is coming to him. Can't believe the cop wasn't charged

This stuff happens a lot more than the usual suspects would like to admit. Unfortunately, cops are often good at 'forgetting to turn on' the camera, recording equipment will "malfunction", and so on. The judge never wants to call cops liars.

And the defendant is trapped into not being able to give his side: if you testify at a suppression hearing in your case, the prosecutor can cross-examine you on the entire case. Meaning, you have to be prepared to give all the testimony you would give at trial, which in turn gives the prosecutor an even bigger than usual set of advantages in preparing for trial. And even then, it'll still be your word against the cop's or cops'. Judge pretty much never suppress anything unless (1) the cop catches himself in a very important lie, or (2) the cop accidentally admits doing something that rendered a stop or search unconstitutional.

Put on top the fact that lots of people know cops as friends or family. They'll only hear the good side or the difficult side from the cop. If the cop engaged in misbehavior, he isn't going to be telling you all about it on a 7/4 BBQ....

And hey, we always want to believe it's just one bad apple. After all, wouldn't we feel foolish braying about how free and awesome America is if we had to face the full scale of corruption and misdeed in law enforcement.

It's mainly the cameras. Cops cover for each other almost no matter what. Only a small fraction will do the right thing no matter what. The bulk go along with whatever, which means for every bad apple there are several enablers minimum.

Nonsense. All it does is encourage government to do nothing to avoid liability. Prosecuting him is the government creating it's own liability.

So, if you call a pizza delivery person and that person crashes into someone, you obviously should be liable because YOU are who had him driving to your house and you know driving a car can lead to an accident.

Not me, but the Pizza place yes, if they knew he was a dangerous driver, or had an unsafe vehicle. You know the ones that hired and paid for the driver

This were a public lynching ought to be acceptable. After he is tried and convicted of course.

Rack up those drug busts to get a promotion. Sociopath narcissist.
