This is why police shoot so many bullets.

I watched the video and I'm surprised no one mentioned this yet on why the situation could not be defused. He was yelling "shoot me", and after he was shot he got up again.

This was clearly a suicide by cop, a horrific element that many law enforcement tragically have to deal with in this country.

I wonder if he was wearing any kind of vest.
The only time I've ever seen a person take that many rounds and get up again like nothing happened is in "The Terminator" in a PCP addict situation.
I mean, yes he WAS bleeding like a stuck pig but he got back up after several well placed shots to his torso, so at least one round HAD to have hit something major, you'd think.

Drugged up, miss a vital organ/bones... And while you say "That wasn't a lot" the first salvo was what? 6 shots into the guy and he got back up?

Report: Chicago Police shoot teen 16 times | Chicago He allegedly had a knife and was slashing car tires. Overkill? Or were the cops putting down a T1000?

It's just one example of what I was talking about when I created this thread.

I don't understand the purpose of this thread... to vindicate all police? Because as far as I can tell, we're supposed to judge things on a case by case basis. There's plenty of recorded footage of police shooting multiple rounds at unarmed people and killing them, all because the police officer supposedly got spooked. The standards to which police are held are kind of laughable in many areas. Is a police officer being spooked worth the life of a citizen? If it were anyone else, they would go to prison for a very long time.

There are plenty of police who follow due process and are justified in shooting, like in the OP video. There are also plenty who aren't.

What did this thread accomplish? Absolutely nothing.
Couldn't we apply the same logic to threads documenting bad shoots? Do those threads likewise accomplish nothing in your view?

i believe both videos help to show the police officer's perspective
we hear the presentation of the fatal events from the victim's family almost exclusively

What a horrifying situation for those officers. They showed an immense amount of self-restraint. I don't think that any human in that situation would have as much, I know for sure I wouldn't. I can't believe how many times he was fired upon and still got up and attacked. He had to have been high on drugs. God bless any man that wears the blue. These officers reacted in a way they were trained to do. I still can't get over how many bullets the guy was able to take and still get to his feet.

This video is from the body-cam of the other officer, different perspective. I can see the benefit of body cams for both the police and for the victim. Whenever a fatal shooting occurs after a confrontation with police and they do an investigation and claim that the "body cam was turned off", that's when I begin doubting the credibility of the officer.

^ this!

I don't think these cops in the above clip shot "so many bullets".
I know. This is why I said that you didn't think eleven was a lot.

I did not remember that there were four cops in the Diallo shooting so you have me at a disadvantage
Well, I WOULD have you at a disadvantage, if the fact hadn't been cited in the very post you were quoting.

except that Diallo was unarmed.
The officers didn't think he was unarmed, but that's beside the point. They decided deadly force was necessary and reasonable. You can argue with that decision, but the number of rounds discharged as a result was not at all a lot, per your own suggestion.

I don't know what you're on about,
I am just talking about what you were talking about. It does not surprise me that you don't know what that was.
