DOJ: Alabama prisoners exposed to horrifying violence, rape; murders a 'regular' occurrence

Personally I dont believe in "rehabilitating" inmates. I believe that criminality is largely innate, and if you committed a crime, it's very likely that you will commit another.

That's a question that has been debated for a long time. It depends on what kind of crime you're talking about. Most people in prison are there for drug possession and petty crime, which is arguably a social problem.

So do you think it's okay that inmates who are wards of the state are subjected to rape and violence on a regular basis?

You don't even see the irony of your own statement... that they are in prison precisely because they went through due process and imprisonment is the punishment.

Do you realize that, as wards of the state, prisoners are owed protection from undue harm, or cruel and unusual treatment?

Do you also see that many of these prisoners will also one day be released, and how they treat society is going to be a reflection of the treatment they got in prison? That the difference between torturing them in substandard care will cause a vastly different result than rehabilitating them?

Do you have any sense of decency and responsibility toward society, sir?

Forget it Jake, it's Gulfman.

My son was imprisoned for having drugs on him for which there was a prescription. Charges dropped. Had good luck and wasn’t abused, but spent two days in fear. I was jailed for five days by mistake. Your comment shows ignorance of the real world.

According to you everyone in jail is innocent.Open up the cages and let them all out then.

Never said that. Just my son and I. Good reason to treat prisoners with respect. That said, good thing we have jails, tho the fact that we lead the world in prisoners is some concern.

DOJ: Alabama prisoners exposed to horrifying violence, rape; murders a 'regular' occurrence

WASHINGTON – Prison inmates in Alabama are routinely subjected to horrifying violence and sexual abuse within "a broken system" where people are murdered "on a regular basis," according to a Justice Department review.
Federal investigators who spent more than two years scrutinizing the prisons in a state that incarcerates more people per capita than almost any other found illegal drugs and weapons were rampant, cellblocks were overcrowded and dilapidated and the few poorly trained officers on duty appeared powerless to establish any semblance of control.
Violence, murder, rape in Alabama prisons unconstitutional, DOJ says

Reading this it is very concerning. Doesn't matter why they are in prison. The violence and abuse is inexcusable.

America needs to cut back welfare and other mismanaged programs and do away with global warming funding and other nonsense wasteful spending so it can fund prisons in a way which will help.

Will liberals give Trump credit on prison reform? I doubt it.
