El Chapo Found Guilty on All Counts, Faces Life in Prison

2/12/19
The Mexican crime lord known as El Chapo was convicted on Tuesday after a three-month drug trial in New York that exposed the inner workings of his sprawling cartel, which over decades shipped tons of drugs into the United States and plagued Mexico with relentless bloodshed and corruption. The guilty verdict against the kingpin, whose real name is Joaquín Guzmán Loera, ended the career of a legendary outlaw who also served as a dark folk hero in Mexico, notorious for his innovative smuggling tactics, his violence against competitors, his storied prison breaks and his nearly unstoppable ability to evade the Mexican authorities. As Judge Brian M. Cogan read the jury’s charge sheet in open court — 10 straight guilty verdicts on all 10 counts of the indictment — Mr. Guzmán sat listening to a translator, looking stunned. When the reading of the verdict was complete, Mr. Guzmán leaned back to glance at his wife, Emma Coronel Aispuro, who flashed him a thumbs up with tears in her eyes.

Lock this serial murderer and mega drug trafficker up in the Florence, Colorado Supermax forever.

The jury members will be wincing when they start their cars for the next few months!

I’m waiting to hear about the supposed 100M payment to the Mexican President.......

.....better get a top floor cell......

Never say never. ;)

I do think though they need to watch him and everyone around him very, very carefully. It would be a huge embarrassment if he did manage to get out.

No one has yet. ADX is were the federal government sends the worst of the worst ... mass murderers, convicted terrorists, etc.

El Chapo would remain in the supermax part of the facility which is rated superior to a maximum-security prison.

ADX Florence

I see no reason to keep this guy alive at the expense of tax payers.
a 5 cent bullet from walmart will solve the issue quick.

Damn, they sure got some bad ones up in there, I feel sorry for those guards having to deal with the worst of the worst. Makes the federal prisons I visited look tame in comparison.

Guys like him came to power because the world governments banned recreational drugs. Banning things never works. No matter how many times you put people like him away, he'll simply be replaced by another.

As he proved in Mexico.
Yep, and if any of those caravans coming north has a multi-billion dollar fortune with them it probably won't work here either.

I agree, however, I think he deserves more than a nickel bullet. At least a .40 cal JHP. It will only take one. Cost about .55 cents, (depending on brand and quanity purchase.)

na too expensive.

Aluminum extension ladders only cost a few hundred dollars at most.

El Plopo goes off to the Big House!

It's good we finally have been able to convict a cartel leader of Chapo's stature but it seems to have done nothing to the cartel itself, it's still being run business as normal.

What's the over/under on him escaping?

He doesn't have to escape in order to run the cartel.
As long as he is alive, all the capos under him will follow his orders.

Very few Home Depots in the middle of the Sonoran Desert.

No need to move your goalpost. Simple fact is he used a tunnel to escape.
No movement here. How do you think the tunnel got built under the noses of the Mexican police?

Let's get back to your original comment---walls don't work. That statement is correct since a tunnel (regardless of how it was dug or ignored) defeated the walls in the prison. They will also defeat a border wall.

I know that's not what you were aiming for but hey, it's a fact. ;)

true-market driven crimes are that way. If there is a serial killer or a child rapist and the government takes said scum bag out of circulation-nothing market-wise exists to create another one. However, if there are 100 coke fiends and the dealer is busted, the demands of the 100 users creates another dealer.
