Otto Warmbier's family seeks $1.1 billion from North Korea after son's imprisonment, death

Wouldn't the parents have to prove their son would have been worth that over his lifetime in order to get a judgement?

only if the suit was limited to actual damages. I assume there are the following components

1) pain and suffering of the deceased
2) pain and suffering of his parens
3) Punitive damages for wrongful conduct

If I were Kim Jong-un, I'd insist on the case being heard in North Korea.

he doesn't have that ability but yes, if he could he would

Why was the trail of the 4 officers accused of assaulting Rodney King, held in Los Angeles ?

Was it because that's where the alleged assault took place ?

Don't recall

You think that’s bad, try this one. They’ve been suing Federal Signal over their manufactured sirens..............being too loud.

Something I don't understand about litigation in the USA.

In the UK if you sue somebody and you lose, you're hit with a massive legal bill. Perhaps you don't have to pay your lawyers if they lose you the case but you have to pay all the rest.

When famous Holocaust denier David Irving sued Penguin Books over the Holocaust, he lost and was forced to sell his house:

You don't hear of this in the USA - you instead hear of hundreds of trivial lawsuits that just never happen in the UK.

I’m not a lawyer. In any way. Imagine suing Nike because the shoes you bought were too comfortable.

So apparently the US has about $63M in frozen NK assets. I would be fine with them getting at least part of that.

Certain parts of the world are just not a good idea for for US Passport holders. Someone dropped the ball......and then once he got there, collecting unauthorized souvenirs, not a good move......reflects poorly on the family....
