The President should be impeached. There's easily enough evidence already in the public domain to find him guilty of multiple counts of obstruction of justice. That's just based on the information that's publically available not to mention what else Mueller might already have on him. Sadly we all know that Republicans in the Senate will not do their jobs and will let Trump get away with bloody murder so even if he is impeached by a Democratic House the Senate will not convict him.

My question is whether double jeopardy could apply. Could the house impeach him again down the road and force a new trial if something forced the Senate to change its mind?

Setting aside the rest of your claims, double jeopardy does not apply to impeachment.

Interesting. I didn't know that. Is that because impeachment occurs in the legislative instead of the judicial branch?

Double jeopardy only applies to criminal proceedings. Impeachment is a separate political process set out in the Constitution.

Unless some new information comes to light you won't get two thirds of the Senators to vote for impeachment. So we know what the Dems will be up to IF they win the house back. :doh

If we were to go with what the constitution says, than Trump should have been impeached through the political process at least 50 times by now. Perhaps 200+ where ethics violations are concerned. I also believe that treason is the perfect example of a political crime.
