Dogs Should Be Banned From Police Use

BS dogs understand many words. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/...and-human-speech-scientists-say-a7216481.html

Can dogs understand what we say? | Dog Training | Animal Planet

"It turns out that people who talk to their dogs may be on to something. Studies show that the average dog can understand about 165 different words, in some cases more if you make a point of training them. This includes the basic commands such as "sit," "stay," and "go," as well as a range of other terms, assuming they're tangible words and not abstract ideas."

They don't understand the actual word. They associate the sound and respond. Take a person and a dog that have never heard a word before and then explain it to them in words only and see which one then can do what you explained. Stimulus Response... I thought that this was a commonly understood concept about dogs.

Did you lose one here? I missed that here... sorry.

Oh no, it's been awhile...Sept. 23, 2016 but I've talked about him here and I still miss him like crazy til this day...I was merely pointing out how important our pets can be to us...thank you...

Not a chance...they find 100X more drugs than they miss....

Well that is why there were links for you to read, which specifically disputes that claim. I thought that it was commonly understood that links are useful.

It was not even buried in the text it was right by the title: Dogs can understand human speech, scientists discover

Brain scans discover evidence that dogs process language in a similar way to humans and are only truly happy if a praising tone of voice is matched by the actual words spoken

The city/police department should have paid all her medical expenses.

That is stimulus response... like what human children learn as they grow up. Dogs and humans learn words... like "No!" or "Go for a walk/go to the park" and inflections in the voice speaking to them. The article does not say that the dog knows what words mean. The article states that the dogs have a “word-meaning representation”... not that they "understand what the word means". Like I said, Take a person and a dog that have never heard a word before and then explain it to them in words only and see which one then can do what you explained. Dogs don't understand what a person is saying... they understand that a word will bring about a specific outcome... food, play, petting... not what the word actually means, which was my whole point.

Dogma is hard to give up.

The city should have paid all her medical bills. That is just basic fairness.

To the issue of dogs; they are sometimes "cued" to "hit" on drugs where none exists. I think they are used too often to make a person look guilty, and give the police the "probable cause" they need to make a search legal. They are a big part of "policing for profit".

There was a case recently of a dog "hitting" on a vehicle, and the "search' turned up some marijuana seeds on the floor, so the car and money were seized. Later the seeds were determined to be vegetable seeds and the victim was never charged. The police would still not return his property.

The police in this country are out of control. Greed has them by the short hairs, and now it's all about money.

Police in my city now wear ribbon bars on their uniforms like the military. It a symbol of their militaristic approach. I detest the militarization of our police departments.
