Parents allegedly leave 11-year-old child home alone in Spring to go to concert in Detroit

Physically, she can meet her own needs. It's whether she can handle the stress of being alone over night. Night-time is scary for kids.

The bigger question is, with parents like that, how likely is it they properly prepared her for the task? I'm thinking, not likely at all.

At 11 years old?

Well, yeah. But an 11 year old should be able to do basic cooking and cleaning, and self-care.

Which part of what I said are you questioning?

Ack. I mean to respond to this:

She's certainly old enough to care for herself for that amount of time, but I question whether she'd be able to handle being alone for that long. Would've been better to have a friend stay over with her or something.

At eleven, I'd expect most kids to be able to handle being alone for 36h.

Kids panic easily, even at that age. Depending on how resilient she is (and kids these days aren't taught resilience), she could be able to handle it, but she could still get freaked by different things, even like the sounds of an animal in the roof cavity.

Fair enough. I can only compare it to my own experience and that my friends were willing to tell of.

We were pretty much "free range"...

I was too, but I work with kids, and there's a whole spectrum of parenting styles, with varying levels of independence and resilience.
