The man Chicago police shot and killed Saturday appeared to be reaching for a gun in his waistband, according to body camera footage released by the department on Sunday.

Chicago police released two versions of the same video. One of the versions showed the events in real time and the other was in slow motion. Both versions showed four officers approaching Harith Augustus, 37. In the video, officers try to grab Augustus, who pushes the officers' arms away and flails his arms. Augustus then rolls over the hood of a police vehicle and appears to reach to the right side of his waistband, where police say they saw a gun.
---------------------------------------

Yes, he is definitely reaching for the gun. (side question: Why do they say 'appears to' when you can clearly see something?) People should wait before rioting and blaming the police.

But as news of Augustus' death spread, protesters took to the streets Saturday night. Some threw rocks and bottles at police. One protester could be seen stomping on the hood of a police car.
At least four people were arrested and several officers were injured, Chicago police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi tweeted.
Some people hurled words instead of objects at police.
"Who do you protect? Who do you serve?" protesters shouted.

However, even with the video, there are still people who excuse the actions of person shot.

The most ignorant statement I've seen:

"The police are supposed to know the difference between who's a criminal and
who's just walking to their job or trying to get some food, that's their job," Williams said.

1. Guess what, the guy had a gun illegally....that makes him a criminal.
2. Really? Police should know who is a criminal by just looking at them? So you are promoting profiling?

The video is short, unsure what happened before or after that clip, but what we can tell suggests the Chicago Police may not be in the wrong here. (Unsure, but given what we know...)

There are lot of cases of police abuse and misconduct (I'm very vocal), this is not one them though.

If he had complied with the arrest and let them put the cuffs on him, he'd still be alive today, and be out of jail in a year. Now he's in the morgue, which while sad for his family, was completely a consequence of his own actions

Sad also that more people were hurt and/or arrested because jumping to conclusions is the norm.

He had a gun and he reached for it. Now hes dead. Thats kinda how things turn out when you decide to do battle with police.
