Story - https://bc.ctvnews.ca/parents-defend-vigilantism-against-man-under-investigation-for-child-luring-1.3885016

First, this story occurred in Canada, not the US.

Second, there may be more to it that isn't in the news yet.

That being said, the woman found explicit texts between the dirtball and her 13yo. The woman went to the RCMP which seems to have an ongoing investigation. While the RCMP was dutifully investigating, the dirtball continued to contact the kid. Mom and dad got fed up waiting and took matters into their own hands when the dirtball showed up at their house. Mom and dad are being charged while the dirtball, apparently, was not. From the video it looks like mom and dad were exceedingly even handed with the dirtball. The guy was hogtied but I don't see or read about any injuries to him.

I don't know if this is typical of the way that the RCMP handles child molester cases but the actions of the parents, especially in light of the meager support from those tasked to protect them, seems perfectly reasonable. May we never end up with this kind of "justice" down here.

I can't honestly say I wouldn't have done the same, if not worse.

Yea,, Some strange backhoe activity in the back field late one night.. missing person posters a few days after.

And Canadians make fun of our legal system.

I don’t know how it works in Canada but if I am in that jury it is jury nullification time.

Well, you aren't a molester until you molest so goes the horse****.

The parents could have ordered him off the property, then if he didn't leave have him arrested for trespassing. The problem with capturing someone and tying them up is that you are going beyond what a homeowner can do. The castle doctrine (if there is one in Canada) does not include having your own dungeon to hold prisoners pending transfer to the Po-Po.

I guess killing them and burying them in a field is cool. What could possibly go wrong?

It sounds to me like the mother posed as her daughter and invited the guy over to their house in the first place only to then tackle him and tie him up. The police specifically asked her not to interfere with the investigation, and to not invite the guy over to their house. It's possible now that they won't be able to get the evidence they needed to charge the predator leaving him free to prey on others.

Certainly not handled the best by the family.

Cant believe I am saying this but home owners went too far... they should be charged.

I believe they invited him to the house (while pretending to be the girl).

The invitation part is what is getting them into trouble (that and calling the police.

If it was me, no cops would have been involved but a round of golf without golf balls would have been played

i don't think they have citizen arrest laws in canada, but they do here in the US.

ost states have codified the common law rule that a warrantless arrest may be made by a private person for a felony, misdemeanor or "breach of peace".[64] "Breach of peace" covers a multitude of violations in which the Supreme Court has even included a misdemeanor seatbelt violation punishable only by a fine. The term historically included theft, "nightwalking", prostitution and playing card and dice games.

Canada law:

Arrest without warrant on premises
9. (1) A police officer, or the occupier of premises, or a person authorized by the occupier may arrest without warrant any person he or she believes on reasonable and probable grounds to be on the premises in contravention of section 2.

Delivery to police officer
(2) Where the person who makes an arrest under subsection (1) is not a police officer, he or she shall promptly call for the assistance of a police officer and give the person arrested into the custody of the police officer.

The owner or a person in lawful possession of property, or a person authorized by the owner or by a person in lawful possession of property, may arrest a person without a warrant if they find them committing a criminal offence on or in relation to that property and
(a) they make the arrest at that time; or
(b) they make the arrest within a reasonable time after the offence is committed and they believe on reasonable grounds that it is not feasible in the circumstances for a peace officer to make the arrest.

so unless he showed up and they hog tied him for a few days before calling the cops they should not have been charged.

this guy though should have been arrested though.

I hope we get to hear the rest of the story.

Sure, but why would the parents do that, they lured him there which would be entrapment if it were done by the police so it is not like the guy came their without being lured there.

I hope the RCMP is going to get this pervert too, but entrapment and assault is not legal either (I would assume).
