Report: Four of Sheriff Scott Israel's Deputies Waited Outside Douglas High During School Shooting | Breitbart

A report released Friday claims four of Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel’s deputies waited outside Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School while the attack was occurring.
On February 22 Breitbart News reported that one deputy resigned after it was learned that he was on scene but failed to control Nikolas Cruz. Sheriff Israel told ABC 13 that video shows the deputy, Scott Peterson, “arrive at the west side of Building 12” and “take a position” outside the school — but never go inside. The sheriff’s office moved to suspend Peterson, who resigned before the suspension could take place.
Now CNN reports that the Coral Springs police officers claim three other Broward County deputies were outside the school but failed to go inside as well. They quote “Coral Springs sources” who said the three “deputies had their pistols drawn and were behind their vehicles” when Coral Springs officers arrived. They said “not one of [the deputies] had gone into the school.”

The sources indicate other Broward County deputies arrived on scene, and two of those new arrivals joined with Coral Springs officers and entered the building.
The sources said, “Coral Springs police were stunned and upset that the four original Broward County Sheriff’s deputies who were first on the scene did not appear to join them as they entered the school.”
Coral Springs Police Department public information officer Sgt. Carla Kmiotek would not comment on what Broward County deputies did or did not do. Rather, “The Coral Springs Police Department will speak on behalf of our officers and their response in that incident,” she said. “We will not speak on behalf of Broward Sheriff’s deputies and their response to the incident.”

If that turns out to be true then there is something seriously wrong with the recruitment and training of that sheriff’s office. One deputy not having enough nerve to do his job I can understand slipping through the cracks, but FOUR?

The early bird may get the worm but the second mouse gets the cheese. Would you rather enter the building, known to contain (at least one) active shooter, alone or with a fellow officer (or two)? One hopes that the first police officer on the scene would try to go it alone in cases where a crime is in progress but I am beginning to think that is more the exception than the rule.

I almost feel as if the cops should have a legal standard like soldiers, if a soldier fails to engage the enemy when they have a duty to its “misbehavior before the enemy” (art 99 UCMJ) and that can carry a death sentence. I don’t think capital punishment here, but at least jail time

post Columbine (1999) the protocol is for LEO to breech the school, enter, determine the attacker(s), and kill the attacker(s)

if this did not happen in Florida then LE better lawyer up & get ready to throw away $100 of million$ ..........

Yeah, arming people and training them does not mean anyone is more safe, I agree.

I think they'd go in if it was a kid with a knife instead of an AR-15.

It's really rather simple - no one, absolutely no one, knows how he or she will react when the bullets start flying. That being said, if the article is correct that four deputies stood by idly and did not enter, then that's not a problem with the individuals, but of leadership. If they are guilty, then the individuals should pay a price...but the real fault lay with the leadership that failed to hold them to a high-enough standard to ensure that they would respond accordingly. That's why we drill, drill, drill...because one is much more likely to react how one is trained...and it's the leader's responsibility to make that happen.

Maybe they were taking a union break. Ya never know....

You know what, most people rise to the occasion when in a stressful situation. In mass shooting events people have administered first aid under fire, during the 1994 Fairchild AFB shooting a sixteen year old girl who wanted to be a paramedic held pressure on a victims wounds while the shooter was still active. How many people during Vegas commandeered cars and moved the wounded?
People have taken on mass shooters, sometimes armed sometimes not. The truth is, anyone is capable of performing and this cop was a coward, and if he were a soldier he could’ve faced a firing squad for being a coward. End story. There is no justification for being a police officer and while children are being killed keeping yourself safe. It’s like the sea captains of yesteryear, EJ Smith and First Mate Murdoch went down with the Titanic while directing their crew in the act of saving as many of his passengers, they weren’t going to leave until all of their charges were safe and they died for it, no excuses bro, seriously

The operative word here is "political".

This whole school shooting and all the deaths are a result of "political".

If it's true that county is going to be doing a lot of hiring as soon as they fire the four cowards.

In my mind, sitting idle as kids are executed and you are armed, is pure cowardice.

Yes it is. Now, I don’t think cowardice is immoral. I just don’t think it is a trait we want in police officers. Unfortunately it is a very difficult thing to screen for.

This is just sickening. Im beginning to think that most cops are only good for beating up unarmed civilians and turn into chickens when confronted by a shooter.

Something is clearly wrong. But the problem is not just the officer but his superiors as well.

Why do officers not carry a rifle of some sort so when the time comes they are equipped to handle the situation. Why are these officers not trained in how to clear a building and deal with these type of shootings. Who is responsible for requiring the training and making sure they have the equipment to do their job. That would be their superiors.

I am willing to bet that if they bought their own AR-15 and brought it on duty they would be is violation of some silly stupid law. Otherwise why would the average redneck be better equipped to handle one of these shooting than our police?
