For those wondering how the Argentinians did this without violating diplomatic immunity and sovereignty of diplomatic compounds, it was a joint operation between the Argentinian and Russian governments.

I'm betting some dealer thought his stash would be safe there. I guess he figured wrong

no, Argentinians did it against Muscovite government will

Read your own link.

Russian and Argentine police had decided to mount a sting operation after the Russian ambassador informed them of the drugs find in Dec. 201

The minister said Russian security service agents "came to Argentina on three occasions to assist in the investigation" that took more than a year.

It was a diplomatic compound. It would be illegal for the Argentinians to enter the compound or intercept a diplomatic pouch without the protected government’s permission.

"No diplomatic immunity for drug traffickers in Argentina. "

Who said they do? Who or what are you quoting there?

You said this sting was done against Moscow’s will and I said the Argentinian’s couldn’t have done it without the Russian government's cooperation because they couldn’t enter their diplomatic compound or intercept their diplomatic pouch legally without their cooperation.

Host nation law enforcement cannot enter another nation’s diplomatic compound without permission even if it involves a crime far worse than drug trafficking.

But again, your own article states they had cooperation.

Well they could if they wanted to, they would just cause a huge diplomatic incident, thats all

Sure, they could violate the Vienna Convention, to which they are a signatory, if they wished. It would expose them to sanctions and loss of protection of their own facilities in Russia. No country is going to risk that over a drug bust.

the stars , specially made for Muscovite market?

..... it was a joint operation between the Argentinian and Russian governments.

Soooooo - The Russian Government did not deal with the situation themselves - and pay off the local cops to keep them quiet about the whole affair. Then the guilty Russians were not taken back to the Kremlin and executed?

Russians do not like their dirty laundry to be aired out. Two.... why would they Invite local cops in a building that they run spy operations out of?

Three ----- What was all that cocaine doing there? It was not for personal use , I'd venture to say it was being used as cash for gratuities or payoff in the local area. Cocaine and cash go hand in hand. Pay with dinero.... or powder. Russians have little or nothing in the dope ; and in the course of paying off people, OR recruiting spys to work for them..... they pay in drugs.

Central and South America is riddled with crime - Murder and drug cartels. It is a dangerous environment ...... and a top area for Russian Spy Operations. A great area for Russian for covert ops and spying..... since about the late 1960s . Latin America and Cuba. Human and Electronic intel gathering by the Russian bear. Nobody thinks nothing is there - but there is, Or Russia would not still be there - so something is worthwhile. Russians work ---- US and European Intelligence watches them. Either way......Latin America is no place to take strool or walk.

Story is suspicious to me.

We don’t have enough details but I could easily see how this could happen without senior embassy officials knowing about it. I worked at embassies for 2 decades and most countries use two types of diplomatic pouches: classified and unclassified. In this particular case the classified pouch could only be handled by Russian citizens with high security clearances. No unescorted host country national employees would have access. The unclassified pouch, however, can be handled, prepped, and left alone with embassy employees who are host country nationals. Remember, host country nationals make up the bulk of an embassy staff.

I have seen host country national staff take advantage of the diplomatic pouch before. Nothing like this, of course, but it happens. And Russian spy operations would most definitely not be run out of an annex in which host country nationals worked.

Again, we don’t have enough information to conclude one way or the other, but I have seen first hand how this kind of thing could happen without senior Russian officials knowing about it.
