Well that's not good. This sheriff should be in a whole heap of trouble and his deputy should be right there with him. Just because someone in authority gives you the go ahead to shoot you still need to keep your head screwed on straight and only pull the trigger if absolutely necessary.

Yeah, the suspect was fleeing and he was dangerous but he was only deadly dangerous if you kept driving your damned patrol car into him.

driver of the pickup truck was obviously 'in control' of the vehicle & not having some type of medical episode

I grade LE pretty damn hard but the guy driving that truck needed his ass kicked a good week before the video was shot ...........

the guy was endangering anyone & everyone on that highway; **** him ..........

What is the problem here? I don't see it.

This happened in April of last year. The only reason we didn't hear about it until know is because the driver is white. If he had been black it would have been nationwide news last spring, especially since it happened in White County, Tennessee.

White County lives matter!

So much for "white privilege."

I don't see a problem here either. What exactly is the problem? What do you exactly expect them to do?

I see these threads and then do a little background info gathering, just for my own knowledge. And I wonder could the police done something differently? I am sure they could have, spike strips, etc..

I guess they could have just followed him at a safe distance until he got into a town and possibly killed some one swinging that trailer around, Or possibly taken a off ramp, slammed into a stopped car and hurt/killed someone.

But what I really wonder is, Why was Dial driving on a suspended license? (I could not find any info on why) . Why did his wife let him drive on a suspended license? she had to know!!

Why did he have to start a 17 mile chase? Why not just pull over and possibly just get a ticket?

Why continue to ram police cars when your trailer has a flat tire, truck may have had a flat tire, you know that you are not getting away.

I don't believe for one instance the "he was scared" claim by his wife and that's why he ran.

When you get right down to it, this was Dials own fault, he broke the law ( many times) he endangered the police, and anyone else on the road as well.

Who give's a crap about what was said afterwords, they stopped a potential deadly chase. We see the last few minutes off the chase, but how many lives did he endanger during the other 15 or so miles?

Wow.

Generally speaking, if you try to pull a guy over for a suspended license and he takes off you use spike strips or other non-lethal methods to stop him. Fleeing from the police, in and of itself, is not a dangerous felony and unless there is serious, imminent threat of the driver causing death or serious injury to another cop or a citizen then you don't authorize the use of deadly force and you don't shoot the guy as soon as you get him stopped.

The cops were wrecking their own cars trying to PIT him and should have gone to a plan B when it became obvious that wasn't going to work.

Plan B.. Shoot to kill,, All he had to do was stop...that's it, Easy, Simple, painless,, just stop.

If they knew he had a suspended license I assume they also know where he lives. There's really no point in chasing him at all. Just go to his house. Or even better - boot the truck. Half the problem is that some police seem to know only one response to a situation - force.

Running because you have a suspended should not invoke a death sentence. He didn't stop. He should have. He was a moron. Being a moron isn't a capital offense. There are certainly other ways to deal with morons.

I see no problem with police behavior here. What's your beef?

Once he began using his pick-up truck as a weapon, all bets were off.

Guy had a suspended license... cease pursuit and mail him a ticket. Done.

Cops are generally hopped up adrenaline bullies armed to the teeth that think that they are all Navy SEALs... Force is their go to Plan and Departments back up this behaviour then turn around and cry that people don't respect them or that their cops are getting shot.

The Ironic part is that White County was originally set up as a Sanctuary County for White People back in 1863...

Any car chase is a lethal threat. And they needed him off the road as fast as possible before he hits someone. They already ran through a busy intersection.

Running a stop sign or red light could result in a fatal accident. Should people who run red lights be shot on sight?

No because you're not continuing in the action. A car chase is a prolonged thing especially at high speeds.

The report says the guy in the truck got up to 50 or so.
