Over a dozen arrested for feeding homeless in El Cajon [W:69]

Re: Over a dozen arrested for feeding homeless in El Cajon

The hep outbreak has to do with another liberal policy of banning plastic bags. Hobos poop in bags, the bags prevent the spread of hep A. no bags, they poop anywhere.

I've heard that, but I still see bags everywhere. They just charge a few cents for them now. And there was humanure around back then too. The crazy are crazy, and they make up the majority.

Its mostly that they all congregated in small areas where their presence was tolerated.

They have been dispersed out of downtown and have moved inland.

I guess the homeless arent part of the public. Its illegal to give another man food in public if he doesnt own a home. (and women and chldren) Hand another man a boritto on the way out of the convenience store and you might go to jail. Cities keep passing these laws and doesnt it just seem like exactly the opposite of human?

“I submit that an individual who breaks a law that conscience tells him is unjust, and who willingly accepts the penalty of imprisonment in order to arouse the conscience of the community over its injustice, is in reality expressing the highest respect for the law.”- MLK

That is a dishonest title if nobody was in fact arrested.

Re: Over a dozen arrested for feeding homeless in El Cajon

Those military don’t get to vote in local elections unless they were San Diego residents at the time of their enlistment. So they aren’t picking the politicians who are making the decisions.

Tons of retirees though.

Interestingly enough I lived in leucadia for a while and its liberal money there. Much different from say la jolla, which is quite conseative in "climate".

Re: Over a dozen arrested for feeding homeless in El Cajon

I worked for KFC when I was 14. We threw buckets of chicken away ever night at closing. The homeless shelter was a couple blocks away. I asked the manager if we could give the food to the homeless. He said absolutely not. I would be immediately fired if that chicken went anywhere but the dumpster. I asked if I could take it home and he said absolutely not. The liability is too high. I said I could buy that chicken 2 minutes before closing but after closing that chicken had to be thrown away. That is the rules. I used to put the bucket in a garbage bag and set it behind the dumpster and take it home when I left a few minutes after closing. I got caught and was fired.

Could you imagine how many homeless people could be fed perfectly good food thrown away every evening by restaurants and fast food places across this country. We are not even trying to help the homeless as a people. We are pathetic at best.

Thank the lawyers.

Re: Over a dozen arrested for feeding homeless in El Cajon

Seral years ago somebody got si k off of donated food and sued.

So that was the end of that.

That is ridiculous. I have gotten sick off restaurant food and paid for it. I have gotten sick off meat from the grocery store. So now what do I do? I guess I can never go to a restaurant and never buy food from a grocery store again. Talk about pathetic excuses. These people are eating out of dumpsters and they can no longer eat restaurant food because someone got sick once. This country is turning into nothing but spoiled cry babies. Maybe we do need big government to micromanage our lives and lead us around by the nose like preschool children.

I work with city harvest, I remember when bloomberg that douchebag tried to shut us down.

I would argue that if a cop cuffs you and puts you in his car, you were arrested. You may not have been charged with anything but you were in fact arrested and not allowed to move as a free and equal individual.

I would agree with you. Though they were not taken in and booked, like we think of when a typical arrest happens, you are correct to the legal definition.

People... Words have meaning!

I doubt that even happened. I bet they get the ID for the person and wrote a citation.

There was no violence so there was no need to cuff anybody.

Re: Over a dozen arrested for feeding homeless in El Cajon

The way these liberal cities in California treats it's homeless and the people who try to help them is abhorrent.

L.A. County is researching the idea of using vacant city land and used trailers.
They agree it costs less than dealing with the current problem as is right now.
No, it would not be open ended, there would be requirements to move into regular low income housing as an ultimate step in the process.

The only problem with such a solution, is the gestures end up bringing more homeless in as the word of generosity spreads.

Here's the reasoning behind this law:
Why It?s Illegal to Feed the Homeless in Cities Across America

I disagree with the solution they came up with, but Hep A among the homeless is a legitimate issue that needs to be addressed. Don't be too quick to judge...

You really don't want to see what goes into the dumpsters at your local WM....

Again, emphasis on pragmatism and practicality.
The solutions are cheaper, they include requirements to move up the ladder and out of the housing at some point, and they have rules.
Hardcore homeless, like people who have substance abuse issues, probably will not qualify.

Oakland is trying out Tuff Shed buildings.

Salt Lake City has almost entirely eliminated their problem.
Check out what they've been doing.
Anything beats the ad hoc encampments springing up everywhere.

And pretending that millions of people just suddenly "turned lazy and decided to be bums" is pathetic, because it doesn't work that way.

Portlandia is absolutely out of hand.

Re: Over a dozen arrested for feeding homeless in El Cajon

Portlandia is absolutely out of hand.

This is a national problem, it's not unlike the Hoovervilles of the 1930's.
Conservatives used to brag about how well the economy was STILL doing even as they watched the Hooverville shanty towns spring up everywhere.
The fact is, certain sectors of the economy ARE doing better, but not necessarily the sectors which do the most good for the most people.
For the wealthiest, the economy is screamingly good, and they're getting all the "socialism for the rich" they could ever dream of, even as they continue to "go on strike" and demand more.

And the Trumpians are gloating about "how conservatives have adopted the tactics of The Left" as if flipping the equation was good for America. It's not, and they're gloating at the notion that the Left is somehow being punished.

Keep f*****ing that chicken, see where it leads. This cycle isn't new, and neither is the predictable outcome, which the uber-class might not like too much.

Hobos could be pooping in accommodations provided by the municipalities, which would ultimately save taxpayer money because there would be less instances of Hep A popping up, which is costlier to deal with than supplying sanitary facilities.

Plastic bag bans are about protecting the oceans, so it's disingenuous to whine about liberals when the ocean affects everybody.

Re: Over a dozen arrested for feeding homeless in El Cajon

Typical liberal hypocrisy... called... NIMBY!

Probably the church going conservatives helping them too.

NIMBY doesn't know ideological borders.

Is it so hard to have a porta-potty every few blocks in some alleyway or something. Im sure even soccer ball moms would appreciate it in extreme emergencies.

The tiny houses guy with the mohawk is a friend of mine. The city for years has been trying to shut him down.

Who's whining, I'm simply stating fact.

The tiny house movement is terrifying the housing market.

Can't have people owning a house outright for under $25k.

The "solution", used in many places, is to classify them as RV's or mobile homes and use zoning laws to restrict them out of the area.

For example, where I live you can have a double-wide (or triple-wide) with many occupants on a 1/2 acre lot (with an approved septic system) but not two (or three) single-wides (or tiny homes) with the same or fewer occupants.

Yeah. An RV space costs as much as an apartment here in San Diego.
