HONOLULU (CBS SF/AP) — Authorities were searching Tuesday for a man described by a prosecutor as fitting the profile of a serial killer who escaped from the state’s psychiatric hospital outside Honolulu and was believed to have headed to the Bay Area.

Randall Saito, who was found not guilty of a 1979 murder by reason of insanity, left Hawaii State Hospital Sunday.

The story goes on to say that Saito was denied release in the 90's, partly because he's known for engaging in necrophilia and sadism. Heck of a guy! Just the kind of guy Jerry Brown wants roaming the streets of California, it would seem.

Reports surfaced Monday that Saito was spotted in Stockton, CA.

How exactly did he get money and an ID to board a flight?

Story said he was allowed to leave the facility on his own a few days a week. Probably has to do with good behavior time + duping his psychologist into giving him a recommendation for leave.
