Moscow -- Russian police appear to have discovered one of the country's most grisly cases of cannibalism after pictures of dismembered bodies were found on a phone belonging to one of the main suspects, Russia's state media reported Monday. The gruesome case in the southern Krasnodar region has led to the arrest of a 35-year-old man and his wife, both of whom are alleged to have murdered as many as 30 people since 1999 and consumed parts of the bodies, Russian media reported. Police have identified seven victims so far. The crimes were uncovered when a cell phone, which included images of the man posing with a dismembered female victim, was found on a street in Krasnodar earlier this month. The remains of the woman were found in a bag nearby the following day, according to the official news agency RIA Novosti. At first, the man denied having killed the woman, claiming he had found the remains and had taken photographs of himself with them, before losing his phone.

Russian language media report that Dmitry Bakshaev (35) and his wife Natalia Bakshaeva (42) have confessed to the crimes. They reportedly began their murder/cannibalism spree in 1999 and their apartment contained photos, video's, and jars of body parts the couple had hacked/sawed from bodies. If convicted, they will be incarcerated at the infamous Black Dolphin prison (penal colony № 6) in the Orenburg region of Russia. This is where all Russian murderers serve life terms and is the most secure prison facility in Russia. Each inmate is locked up within three separate cells.

Sounds like they will get off easy.

How does one get locked up "within three separate cells?" Does that mean a cell within a cell within a cell?

Can't say they don't deserve it.

Not all, but some of the cells yes. That's exactly what it means. Black Dolphin prison is located in a dense forest the size of Germany. Winter temps are -40F. It is a 7 hour drive to the nearest city.

Each cell door is solid metal and on this door is a sheet of paper with the prisoners name, number, picture, and a description of his crime(s). Prisoners are not perrmitted to lie down anywhere between 6am-9pm.

Black Dolphin prison has its own cemetery. Whoever goes there dies there.

Wow, that's interesting. And, a good reminder not to do anything bad when in Russia.

Black Dolphin has ~700 prisoners who are responsible for 3,500 murders. About 5 murders per every prisoner.

At least we know that eating people does not prevent hair loss though...

Then why is the prison named after a Dolphin?

Unless my math is wrong 700 prisoners who are responsible for 3,500 murders averages exactly 5 murders per prisoner.. not about.

at one point-often with spies-they would be thrown into blast furnaces, so these two sound like they will get off lightly

You should look at the OP.

I did. The prison is in a huge ****ing forest.

Are there European forest dolphins I am unaware of?

Trolling hard today
~700 prisoners means approx

The prisoner count doesn't remain absolutely static. Prisoner deaths, new arrivals etc. The numbers are an approximation.

Guessing doesn't help.

Can you back that with some evidence?

Why is it named after a dolphin if it is in the forest>?

Black Dolphin is the unofficial name (nickname) derived from a fountain with a dolphin sculpture by the prison entrance that the inmates made.

The official name is "Penal Colony № 6 of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia"

Why do they have a statue of a dolphin in the middle of the forest and where prisoners are not even allowed to see it?

I saw a documentary about that place awhile ago. It was very interesting and very disturbing. They certainly mean business there!

It's not a very nice place to spend the rest of your life. But then again, everyone incarcerated there is a convicted murderer that would kill again if afforded the opportunity.
