Why are there so many crazies on the streets in California? I see homeless people daily where I live in California, but there seems to be an increase in mentally unstable, violent homeless people. One of my coworkers was assaulted by a crazy guy last week, when she was walking from her car to her office. She never said anything to him, he just ran up to her, screamed some obscenities at her, and pushed her to the ground.

And then last night, some guy who I've never seen before ran up to me as I was jogging, and blocked my way. So I stopped, and immediately realized that this guy was not quite right upstairs. He was a white dude, late 20's, muscular, dressed like a cholo; white 'wife beater' shirt, baggy black shorts, and a baseball cap on backwards.

He said he was going to kill me because I 'stole his paperwork and wouldn't give it back'. I really thought I was going to have to punch this guy, as he was ranting about killing me, and getting in my space. Then I thought, what if i land a clean shot on his chin, and he doesn't feel it because he's loony tunes? That'd make a bad situation worse.

I tried telling him that we didn't know each other, but he kept saying that I was lying and that my name was Tom somebody, and that I stole his paperwork.

Why are there so many crazies on California streets? Governor Jerry Brown has let thousands of inmates out early due to Proposition 47, and slashed the budget for mental health issues. That's my guess.

Interestingly, another law aimed at cleaning out jails and prisons will go into effect in several months, Prop 57. I wonder how crazier it'll get after that passes?

Don't know, sounds like a combination of our terrible legacy with mental health and drugs in the U.S., combined with how nice the weather is in CA, I mean, if you're homeless you know?
Sounds like the guy was either schizo or on drugs, I've had someone on drugs act like that...tried to break into my apartment in my twenties, saying crazy stuff, trying to beat down the door, claiming I was in his apartment. Cops arrived as he was kicking out the window.

Sounds like the opening episodes of Fear the Walking Dead... I would be careful if I were you.

May I suggest moving out to the middle of nowhere and living off the grid if you're this scared?

Multiple factors.

Your liberal state doesn't take individual safety seriously. So crazies are sent out to do whatever to whoever with leniency. Add in the fact that you probably can't protect yourself legally and everyone knows THAT. Then you have a factor that we have here in Florida. You are a haven for end of the roaders. So you can a nice diverse cross sections of the can't hack its who had to move from the northeast or Midwest or bum **** wherever because they were bat **** crazy there and they believing moving will help. Throw in a good cross section of multiculturalism to destabilize and create a language barrier...and boom. There you go.

There is a reason normal Floridians don't go to Miami or Daytona. The people there are crazy as **** house rats.

...or a more recently developed suburb. It's older areas that tend to be that way.

Man, that's nuts what happened to you. People keep guns at home for just that kind of scenario. The drug problem is pretty bad here, and our governor has opened the prison gates for inmates to go free, after a federal demand to do so. It all adds up to a lot of bad craziness, unless you can afford to live in a gated community next to Dianne Feinstein and the other fat cats who put us in this situation.

A) do you live in California?
B) if so, which part?
C) you won't answer A or B because you're scared.

Bye now.

Calm down everyone. We have in the US more people in jail than any other country, in absolute and relative numbers. Yes, Brown let some people out, but decades before, Reagan closed institutions and promised he'd make it up with community based health care. Didn't happen, so people have wandered the streets for decades now. Crazy people only have lobbyists in the form of their families and social workers. We ignore the families and stopped listening to social workers years ago.

And the weather is great here. Who wants to freeze on the streets in Michigan?

The neutering of our mental healthcare system is to blame, i wish i could of lived in a time when the crazies were recognized for what they are and locked up in padded cells where they belong instead of being allowed to run roughshod over the rest of us.

^ this is what I'm talking about. Good post man.

I've had several nice neighbors from out of town (gentrification is forcing folks to move here) that I really wish would have stayed, but they couldn't deal with the crazies/panhandlers/druggies, and had to move. Many are moving out of state, to Oregon and Nevada. I'm a native Californian, born and raised here and really hate the idea of moving. But it's getting crazy here.

Those Brazilian Jiu Jitsu classes are sounding like a great idea right now, there's a Gracie school in my city. Do you recommend Gracie schools?

I don't even hear state politicians talking about this, much less doing anything. Kamala Harris had a horrible track record on crime, let killers walk the street, and was rewarded with a 6 year gig as Senator. This state has gone full retard.

This thread title sounds like a Goth remake of a REM/Kate Pierson song

Instead of resorting to childish insults, why don't you actually address what I said?

So, no, you won't answer A or B. Well no surprise there, :2wave: not much else I can say besides thanks for the 1 star review

That time was never. We have a better understanding of mental health now than we did. And less murder too. What we need is real mental healthcare for addiction and so on.

Of course you have examples of her horrible track record, her gleefully freeing killers?

I thought that this thread was going to be about UC Berkeley...

The Gracie family are the ones who altered Japanese Jiu Jitsu to the modern form we call Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I would guess that if they have legitimate ties to the Gracies then it would likely be a great place to learn.

Harris is a staunch supporter of criminal justice reform; letting criminals out of jail early, not prosecuting people for crime, which leads to higher crime rates. She was a poor DA for San Francisco, was rewarded with a position as Attorney General where she performed poorly, and was rewarded yet again with a promotion to Senator.

"Here is what the DOJ statistics show. In the period of time that Kamala Harris has been District Attorney in San Francisco:

•The homicide rate in San Francisco County in 2003 was 8.8 per 100,000 population. The homicide rate in San Francisco County in 2008 was 11.6 per 100,000. That’s a 32% increase.

•The violent crime rate in San Francisco County in 2003 was 732.5 per 100,000 population. The violent crime rate in San Francisco County in 2008 was 808.0 per 100,000. That’s a 10% increase.

•The robbery rate in San Francisco County in 2003 was 392.3 per 100,000 population. The robbery rate in San Francisco County in 2008 was 493.7 per 100,000. That’s a 26% increase."

Home made cane or walking stick, with about 8 ounces of weight added to the business end. Hit once to the upper body and/or arms with the expectation of needing to hit again immediately. If he doesn't go down by the 2nd swing, hit the head and also be wearing running shoes.

Or just keep a roll of nickels in your pocket.

When you screw your way into a position instead of earning it, you will most often miss out on valuable experience that is usually learned along the way.

No, you risk broken fingers with a roll of nickels.....
and brass knuckles are illegal in lots of places.
Better to modify something that is legal.
I hear that some perfumes are very unpleasant when sprayed into eyes.
