Why are there so many crazies on the streets in California? I see homeless people daily where I live in California, but there seems to be an increase in mentally unstable, violent homeless people. One of my coworkers was assaulted by a crazy guy last week, when she was walking from her car to her office. She never said anything to him, he just ran up to her, screamed some obscenities at her, and pushed her to the ground.
And then last night, some guy who I've never seen before ran up to me as I was jogging, and blocked my way. So I stopped, and immediately realized that this guy was not quite right upstairs. He was a white dude, late 20's, muscular, dressed like a cholo; white 'wife beater' shirt, baggy black shorts, and a baseball cap on backwards.
He said he was going to kill me because I 'stole his paperwork and wouldn't give it back'. I really thought I was going to have to punch this guy, as he was ranting about killing me, and getting in my space. Then I thought, what if i land a clean shot on his chin, and he doesn't feel it because he's loony tunes? That'd make a bad situation worse.
I tried telling him that we didn't know each other, but he kept saying that I was lying and that my name was Tom somebody, and that I stole his paperwork.
Why are there so many crazies on California streets? Governor Jerry Brown has let thousands of inmates out early due to Proposition 47, and slashed the budget for mental health issues. That's my guess.
Interestingly, another law aimed at cleaning out jails and prisons will go into effect in several months, Prop 57. I wonder how crazier it'll get after that passes?
