After the US had taken over the Alphabay marketplace on the Darknet, the Dutch police had taken over the servers of Hansa Market.

Both the websites dealt in drugs, illegally fabricated identification, credit cards and weapons. The Dutch police had taken over the Hansa Market websites after the webmasters had been arrested. They did their best to integrate into the "lingo" of the website to make sure the clients did not suss out that they were dealing with the police and mean while they were saving the log in data from the clients and had been getting all their addresses, personal data, etc.

Really big drugs shipments were reported to the police in the countries they were being sent too but small shipments were let go so that the sting operation could find as much illegal users and producers of drugs and other illegal things.

They consciously kept the website open after the FBI shut down Alphabay and netted thousands of extra users in the 2 weeks Hansa Market stayed open, making more purchasers and sellers of illegal goods fall into the trap of US and Dutch law enforcement (with the help of course of Europol which is also situated in the Netherlands).

AlphaBay: Global authorities shut down dark net market 10 times the size of 2013's Silk Road - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

It is said that the 2 sites were 10 times as big as the silk road sting in 2013.

I think it is great news, drug sellers and buyers as well as illegal arms dealers will be arrested but let us also be honest, new market places will arise from the debt of the dark net but the dark net is becoming less safe I think with big child abuse websites and other illegal sites being shot down at a faster rate than ever before which is great news for law abiding citizens.

So these were websites where people talked about dealing drugs?

That's stunning. Did these people really think that the internet was a good way to stay anonymous?

These were users of the dark web which gives a great deal of anonymity for the users, but that goes out of the window if you pay for child pornography (using traceable means like credit cards) or if you order drugs with your real address (because the postal shipment of drugs had to get to your home address or it would be pretty useless to order the drugs).

But the issue is that the darkweb is pretty shady and can lead to people doing very illegal things with great levels of anonymity.
