I looked for a thread, but I couldn't find one. This is partisan politics at its absolute worst. A lifetime appointment for somebody who posted rants that wouldn't even be allowed outside the conspiracy section of this forum.

Link from the times:
John Bush, Trump's 6th Circuit Court pick, confirmed by the Senate - Washington Times

He mocked the idea that homosexual families were morally equivalent to heterosexual families and frequented World Net Daily. Now he's been chosen and confirmed by the Senate for a lifetime on the bench of the 6th circuit court. So... basically, the right will just do whatever they are told to now? There's no other explanation for how a homophobic, conspiratorial and very possibly racist man gets a lifetime appointment on the 6th circuit court. Care to justify this? Anybody?

Freedom of mind and ideological litmus tests are not a good idea in the judiciary, who are supposed to be agents of the law, not politics.

judicial activism sucks doesn't it?

I understand this could be meant in more than one way, but John K Bush expresses views that are viewed as bigoted and entirely unacceptable by the vast majority of Americans, yet not a single Republican Senator voted against him.

This isn't about judicial activism to me, it's about the hive that the DNC and GOP have. We all think this way, you all think that way. Not OK to disagree on any issue. Is that what we want in this country? If so, we're not going to last much longer.

Blog post where he says he hopes a member of the audience will ask him about WND's articles about Obama's "Kenyan family", the article in question claims that Obama was about to be outed as a secret Kenyan.

In 1993, he opposed the admission of women into the Virginia Military Institute. You can google that one pretty easily. In 2016, he wrote that he was opposed to legal homosexual activity. Here's that in its entirety.

One of his blog posts mocking same sex couples.

Read his blog. It's filled with anti-gay and conspiratorial garbage. He's a big World Net Daily fan.

Ahh but isn't this the whole problem with the "living document" theory? All you need is one asshole to put in an asshole judge and they can interpret whatever they like.... it's actually the problem with government power in general...always know, that whatever power you give the government, expect that power to fall into your worst enemies hand, because it will...

1. The blog post citation was about Obama claiming America should take care of other nations as if we were "brother's keepers" while doing nothing to take care of his own half-brother who lives in Kenya. That maybe an audience member would ask about his Kenyan family. Do you deny that Obama has family in Kenya?

2. I went to an all-male military school back in the 70's before I joined the Army. My last year they began to allow females to attend and we male cadets were upset about that too. I am also opposed to females in the combat arms specialties of the military for all sorts of very good reasons discussed in military threads in this Forum.

3. In regard to "legal" homosexual activity the only thing I could find was a comment that the Kentucky Supreme Court was the first State to "immunize consensual sodomy from criminal prosecution" after an unspecified contrary holding of the SCOTUS. It appears his argument is the Kentucky court is more liberal than elsewhere. I disagree with his attitude since I support the rights of consenting adults in whatever they do together as a privacy right.

4. The mocking same sex couples blog citation is kind of a stretch. On it's face it seems he is complaining in a joking manner about prioritizing parents under some changes to the passport information "Parent 1 and Parent 2." I suppose it could be taken as a possible comment on same sex marriage.

Still, it does appear that he is a religious conservative and it is likely he would oppose a lot of what such conservatives would call "liberal" trends in the law. IMO, while I don't agree with his viewpoint, I have no problem with differing viewpoints being represented in the appellate court system as long as they can enforce the law fairly.

People on the Left don't seem to have any problem when Courts like the 9th Circuit dominated by left-leaning judges support their political views on gun control, free speech, etc.

:eye roll:

Don't like it? Don't for establishment candidates...like Hillary Clinton. At least the GOP shook things up with the dumbass trump. At any rate the left will actually have to appeal to and consider the feelings of those "damned fly over states."

I'd consider this part of the "dying document" theory

I didn't vote for (we caucus) Hillary in the primary and I opposed her. I have repeatedly said that her nomination was a favor from the DNC they felt she was owed. The DNC does need to shake things up, I agree. But if an Obama appointed judge had a blog where he repeatedly cited conspiracy theories from Media Matters and how he felt third term abortion should be legal everywhere, I would definitely oppose that judge. And I'd like to think there's no way he'd get through. That's the point - this isn't a really conservative judge - this is a nut job who was unanimously confirmed by the Senate's Republicans. And it's not even news. If your information comes from World Net Daily, you should not be given a lifetime appointment to do anything other than selling mini donuts at Six Flags.

The problem is that the senate has NO CLUE who they are putting in and they don't care. It is the same on both aisles. All that matters is that they have the little letter by the name. Our Feds are so corrupt it is a joke.

I completely agree with that. Congress does nothing, they're like a terrible basketball player who gets the ball with an open look but immediately pass because they're afraid they'll miss. I would have said they're like Ricky Rubio but you're from Florida. Elfrid Payton might have worked.

as opposed to dems seating people who think the second amendment doesn't apply to individuals but abortion is a clear right protected by the constitution? I hope Trump keeps picking people that really upset the left and start issuing rulings consistent with the actual words and intent of the constitution.

Yeah, it's stupidly partisan. That's the point. John K Bush is on the bench now, you can sure trust that he'll uphold the constitution when he cites research from Alex Jones in his decisions. Gay Americans are protected as equal citizens. John K Bush thinks what they do in bed should be illegal. I assume you agree with that, right? Congratulations, you're on my side.

I cannot find a rational reason for any state to outlaw gay marriage nor homosexual relationships between consenting adults. But the RKBA is certainly deserving of MORE support from the courts than abortion or gay marriage since the RKBA is specifically enumerated as a guaranteed right.
