Why should we continue to deny the prevalence of Violent Crime when so many of our brothers and sisters in places like Chicago, Atlanta, Memphis, Seattle, Cleveland, Detroit, New Orleans, Baton Rouge, St. Louis, Philly, Baltimore, Jersey City, Jackson, Jacksonville, Miami, Birmingham, Montgomery, Kansas City, Houston, Dallas, Portland and Shreveport are dying?

FACT: There is an Urban War that is currently being waged in America, that must be halted, if we are to survive the 21st Century!

Who is denying the prevalence of Violent Crime ?

Crime ... Violent or Otherwise, has always been and always will be a symptom of a larger problem.

Throwing Police at it the problem is like taking an Aspirin

Who is denying the prevalence of Violent Crime ?

The Mainstream Media seems to be too focused on President Trump, National News and World Events, and not focused enough on the Violence raging all-across America! The Violent Crime that effects our everyday lives, and the lives of our children. Like where we shop, where we go to work, which gas stations we feel are safe enough for U.S. to purchase gas, or a snack, which public schools we send our offspring to, and which parks and community playgrounds are safe enough for U.S. to visit with our families!

Yes, both National and International News are very important, but millions of U.S. would be just as interested in News Stories that effect our everyday lives. Furthermore, People in New Orleans are very interested about what's going on in Baton Rouge, Shreveport, Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles and Detroit.

Please ... tell me more on how this effects "our" everyday lives?

It's quite obvious that our society has been a poor job of bringing up a lot of the kids.

Could you be more specific about the crimes affecting our everyday lives?

And isn't reporting local and regional news the job of local and regional news sources? My local news sources do an excellent job of keeping the community and region up-to-date on what matters to us as well as linking to Reuters and AP national/world news items. A shooting or armed robbery remains big news here, and it IS reported.

Violent crime rates are down. Stop cringing in fear.

We can start by saying that crime rates have dropped nearly in half since 1991. Including in most big cities.

We can continue by saying you're misrepresenting the reality.

Some of those cities do have relatively high crime rates. Many do not.

Chicago, Seattle, Philadelphia, Jersey City, Miami, Jacksonville have moderate or low crime rates.

KC, Detroit, New Orleans, Baton Rouge, St Louis, Baltimore have high crime rates. However, in most of those cities, most of the crime is in specific neighborhoods, with the possible exception of some low-grade property crimes.

Granted, high homicide rates anywhere is unfortunate, and we should find ways to fix it. At the same time, a failure to recognize the progress made over the past 25 years doesn't help the situation.

That is... utter nonsense.

We have some problems, to be sure. But in many respects, crime rates are nearing historic lows.

Trumpski said he was gonna fix

(1) inner city crime
(2) terrorism
(3) the economy
(4) North Korea
(5) Middle East strife
(6) health care
(7) and his orange make up

.......... all within the first 100 days :violin

Yes--surely every reasonable person knows there would not be any more violations of criminal laws, and possibly fewer, if we had no police to enforce those laws. Why, it's common knowledge that police serve no useful purpose except to support doughnut shops.

We need to make this a sticky on this Forum ... people have short memories --> https://www.forbes.com/pictures/mlj45jggj/10-buffalo/#303787bb3f39

Yes--what reasonable person can doubt that there would be fewer violations of criminal laws, if only we had no police to enforce them? As everyone knows, police serve no useful purpose except to support doughnut shops.

Sorry, I didn't mean to go completely over your head, but don't worry, you were never in danger of getting hit.

It's quite obvious that our society has been a poor job of bringing up a lot of the kids.

It isn't the job of the society to raise your children. That is the problem, people are overreliant on someone else to take care of their kids.

Look at something like the issue of single-parenthood in the impoverished black community, typically men run off and forgo the responsibility of a child leaving an overworked single mother to try and care for their kids. Of course the mother isn't blameless, but the core issue is that people don't take responsibility anymore. They rely on schools, welfare, food stamps, day-cares and all other manner of pubicly-funded programs to teach their kids lessons that can only be taught at home.

Underreporting of crime by large cities is epidemic according to some of the articles I have been reading.

Chicago puts its moderate or low murder rate on display for the whole country to see almost every weekend.

Don't get me wrong, parents are not doing their jobs.

But then again, when you're a parent and still not yet an Adult, there's no experience to hand down in the first place.

In addition, no one gets to pick their parents or the condition they are born in. Sometime, when you're born into a hole, depending on how deep you're in, it could take a lifetime to get out and crawl to first base.

I'm not making excuses for anyone, but then again, I haven't walked a mile in anyone's shoes but my own. So I'm not going to try say what it feels like to be is someone else situation.

Well there's one thing for sure, there's no shortage of experts

No amount of lame attempts to insult me could make your disparaging and false remark that police are almost useless against criminals--an "aspirin"--any less silly. How long have you had a low opinion of police?

Ok I'll play ... so what's the number of police that works?

*sigh*

Chicago's homicide rate in 2016 was 27.9 per 100,000 residents.

St Louis' homicide rate was nearly double that, at 59.3.

While Chicago has its issues, homicides been falling in Chicago for years, and the average from 2011 to 2016 was 18 per 100k. Conservatives turned it into a punching bag primarily because Rahm Emanuel became the mayor.

Really? I must not be reading precisely enough, because it sounds to me like that is exactly what you are trying to do.

He was saying police address a symptom not the source. Like an aspirin relieves pain but does not address the underlying problem. It's not a slight against police, it's a fact. It's not the police job to address the source of problems, it's their job to address a symptom.
