Black off-duty cop shot by colleague while responding to car crash

https://www.yahoo.com/news/black-off-duty-cop-shot-colleague-responding-car-crash-2-185230363.html

why did a BLACK LEO get nearly assassinated by a WHITE LEO?

are the COP on BLACK shootings really about RACE ?????????

THIS IS JUST ****ING RIDICULOUS .......................

They'll just blindly insist that it's not about race.

“In the police report, you have so far, there is no description of threat he perceived,” Tate told Fox 2 Now. “So we have a real problem with that. But this has been a national discussion for the past two years. There is this perception that a black man is automatically feared.”

The lawyer is right. Blacks are portrayed as violent criminals, so we expect violent criminal behavior from them, and that results in innocents being harmed like this off-duty officer.

Awareness is the only tool we have to combat this, but that tool has been disarmed by ignorance, bias, and stupidity.

Keystone Kops was a documentary: who knew!

Thank goodness the officer was only injured.

It is always difficult to attribute racial bias to any specific incident. But multiple studies have shown that people make split second assumptions about people based on race. What makes it particularly difficult to correct is this decision making so often happens on a subconscious level.

This DOESN'T HELP...

They also do so based on body size, physical presentation, a person's sex, sexuality, manner of dress, all sorts of reasons based on personal experiences and social education.

Could it be, and I am just throwing this out there...that the persona of the "thug life" many members of the Black community portray might have a little bit to do with such perceptions?

Just saying.

Could be. Of course that wouldn't make it any more acceptable. There was a time when Italian-Americans had to deal with that kind of stigma. Some of the bigotry was blatant but I would bet more often the effects were subconscious. Hell, given the popularity of mafia movies and shows maybe they still have to deal with it.

That was the point I was making. Often stereotypes are based on foundations in reality. I was going to make the comparison to the "gangsters" of the prohibition era popularized in films. The Al Capone's and in relatively recent times, the Teflon Don John Gotti.

But I agree, it does NOT make it more acceptable, just possibly more understandable. All those "relative" race-based crime statistics we keep hearing about these days certainly don't help.

I would bet the tendency to generalize may even be a product of evolution. While it isn't conducive to a fair and just society, my guess is in pre-historic times the "cavemen" who were most distrusting of outsiders were most likely to live and pass on their genes. We carry a lot of evolutionary baggage that got us to where we are but is detrimental in modern civilization, like a taste for sweet food. :)

I REALLY would like folks here to understand that IMO this police brutality **** is getting really ****ing old

What REALLY puts this **** in OUR faces is when we have a WHITE cop that is shooting a BLACK cop; IMO this is potentially a very telling sign

complete & utter ****ING bulll**** propagated by LAW ENFORCEMENT; yeah, force that **** ....................... assholes .............

cop on cop attempted murder .................. THIS **** IS JUST ****ING OUT OF ****ING CONTROL .................

Did anyone actually read the story? Doesn't seem so outrageous as to why the guy got shot.

Fits perfectly with what was written in the Mother Jones article I posted in the Racist NRA thread: Cops are quick to assume the black guy is dangerous.

I don't agree. The story as told sounds like Barney Fife arrived on the scene. Why in the world would he think his life was in danger with the other cops were at ease? They told the off duty officer to approach, recognizing him as a fellow officer, so I doubt they had their guns pointed at him.

Either there is something left out of the story or this guy just shouldn't be a cop to begin with. I'm going with the 2nd one.

Unlike the bastard who shot and killed 12-year-old Tamir Rice, who was employed by the St Louis PD after lying on his job application, the white cop who shot his fellow officer has been on the St Louis force for eight years. It seems like someone thought he was doing an OK job as a cop.

U.S. Crime Statistics from the U.S. Justice Department indicate that 90% of all interracial violent crimes in America are Black on White! Growing up in the south, I would suspect that to be a low estimate, in 2017

So what's the answer? Or is this just more whining and complaining? You and your friends have talked about this, and decided what you would do if you could. What is it? How would you solve it?

Probably not, people are just way too focused on race.

There was a similar story here on Long Island some years back. An MTA officer shot and killed an off duty Cop who came armed to the scene. They were both white so it didn't really get too far.

The Irish experienced similar bigotry and Benjamin Franklin complained about germans in Pennsylvania although he later changed his mind. Remember too the protestant north east almost seceded when the US bought papist Louisiana.

The difficulty with southerners is their culture. I moved to Louisiana 3 years ago and the racism in through the roof nuts. Black on white crime is indeed dropping as blacks get a fairer share of the American dream. The Good News About Race And Crime In America | HuffPost
