Woman sues ‘Jelly Belly,' claims she didn't know jelly beans contained sugar

Simple: she agrees to settle out of court and takes her money.

I hope that she gets her day in court and the blatant deception of calling sugar "evaporated cane juice" gets called out. I do think that she falls into the "too stupid to be allowed to reproduce" category for not knowing where sugar comes from, but the use of "evaporated cane juice" in place of "sugar" is intended to take advantage of just such stupidity. IMO, BOTH parties are in the wrong.

Sugar comes from many sources. Like corn syrup.

if I was the company I wouldn't settle I would take it to court and sue for court costs and attonery fee's
and make her pay for her stupidity.

You obviously have absolutely no ****ing clue what you're talking about:

You should leave that victim out of your culture war.

we have created a "victim" culture

omg your coffee is too hot

omg there is sugar in your jelly belly's

too many people want government to be their mommy and daddy now....they cant rely on themselves and their own common sense

how many of these frivolous lawsuits do you have to see t understand this is what is has come to....

look at the warning signs manufacturers are putting on things now because lawyers are telling them they have to

everyone want to blame someone else for their misfortune, or stupidity....

It says right there in black and white, Sugars 17g.

Can't get much more explicit than that.

It's not about the part they got right, it's about the part they INTENTIONALLY tried to make sound like something different. Half of the places on that label where it should have said "sugar" said "evaporated cane juice". IMO, pretty much anyone in this country with more than 6 neurons talking to each other should be able to figure that out, but obviously there some folks out there that really are that stupid. JB and others who are using the same term are taking advantage of that stupidity. Personally, I think that this whole issue should be settled in a cage match with the winner being declared "The Nation's Stupidest Bad-Ass", bit I'd also like to see the practice of using this kind of intentionally deceptive labeling practice addressed. Maybe we could get the "Best by" dates dropped off of products that take decades to go bad and are there for no other reason than to get people to throw them out early and buy more.

So accuracy should be sacrificed just because some people are too stupid to know what cane juice is? I disagree. We require by law that they label things accurately. That's not JB's fault. If you think that there's a problem with labeling things accurately then perhaps you should lobby for the law to be changed.

The ONLY way anyone with any kind of brain could think CANDY might be sugar-free is if the package actually states it's f'n sugar-free.

It's CANDY dammit.

Candy.

Until I hear otherwise I'm going with the dishonest angle.

Granted, she's trying to use "what could be considered as a contradiction in terms" when comparing the "Ingredients List" and the "Nutrition Facts" in a dishonest way to make a case.

Even more dishonest is the attorney who filed the suit.

If one ignores the "Nutritional Facts" on the same label ....and going strictly by the "Ingredients List...it is deceiving.

"Evaporated Cane Juice" is a relatively new slide of hand (term) or description of SUGAR. For eons, sugar was shown in the "ingredients list" as things like "cane sugar", "beet sugar", corn fructose sugar, etc.

For years cereal makers named their products like say, "Sugar Pops" and changed the name to "Corn Pops" because of the pressure put on food makers to stop mind-****ing kids by enticing them to beg their parents to buy more sugar type foods. Apparently Kids who can't read begin to associate the word "sugar" was listed on front of packaging as a food that's "sweet". The word "Sugar" was listed in the "Ingredients".

Yes, you are crying victimhood about the *poor* business that have to be *gasp* accountable to the public that they derive their profits from!!!!

None of your crying and bitching about "frivolous" lawsuits has much merit. If a case is truly frivolous, it won't end up in court. The rest of your bellyaching is just your own ignorance of our justice system.

Jesus. Plenty of frivolous lawsuits end up in court.

Have you ever filed a lawsuit for any reason that you believed was worthy and that you should receive compensation for a loss or for damages?

What are the most common types of lawsuits are filed that are frivolous?

She's and idiot or dishonest.

Thanks for pointing that out in such a kindly fashion. You're mother must be so proud of you.
