"Screw up" was being polite. The phone record thing could be an honest mistake, but otherwise I believe this was outright intentional fraud on the part of the prosecutor. This is just another in a long line of examples that make me believe...
1) Presocutorial immunity needs to be eliminated, or at least severely curtailed.
2) We need "open discovery", where EVERYTHING is shared by both sides, not just "what might be favorable" to the defense, which is too vague and subjective and hence too easily abused Let each side decide for themselves what is valuable to them, or not. If it's not shared, it cannot be submitted as evidence.
