Arkansas Executes its First Inmate Since 2005

Only God can make that decision. When men do it.....we have committed the same act.

No we haven't. Oh yeah and our constitution puts up a separation of church and state, so whatever your God tells you about execution is not legally valid per the US Constitution.

Says who? God?

Well since you asked

Deuteronomy 22:25
25 “But if in the open country a man meets a young woman who is betrothed, and the man seizes her and lies with her, then only the man who lay with her shall die.

So Rape is clearly no bueno

or Leviticus 24:17

"Anyone who takes another person's life must be put to death."

or 24:21

Whoever kills an animal must make restitution, but whoever kills a human being is to be put to death.

a court and unbiased jurors should decide guilt.

And according to DNA evidence and the recent overturning of over 100 death penalty convictions, they are often wrong.
I know that 90+% of these people are guilty and 95% are likely guilty of other terrible crap. But I cannot find, in my head, an acceptable number of innocent people that it is OK for us/we/me, to kill, just to ensure that we have exacted revenge on the remaining people who really did deserve it.

that's a fair point but there are many murderers were there is no doubt whatsoever.

I guess I am a typical uncivilized American who has not yet attained your exquisitely refined sense of morality. As such, I am glad this vile piece of rat filth is no longer with us. There are several thousand more just like him that should be send to join him where it's hot, and the sooner the better.

Yes you are. You would fit right in with Iran and North Korea.

Well because the state has plenary powers to punish criminal offenders, using laws passed by elected legislators, subject to a constitution.

that's the cliff's notes version.

btw, read your Bible sometime, God pretty explicitly gave us the right to execute criminal offenders in Deuteronomy. That is certainly a delegated power.

Ever heard of the New Testament? Or just conveniently forgetting for the moment?

Yeah but it also punished rapists by making them marry the woman they raped, if she got pregnant as a result.

And if you beat a woman to miscarriage, you had to pay her owner for loss of property. (typically the husband)

We sure Old Testament is a ****in standard we want to go with?

Jews don't seem to have any problems with the Old Testament.

Why should a rapist get to live, while their victim's quality of life has been diminished significantly because of his actions?

what happens if you make rape a capital offense?

an incentive for the rapist to kill his victim

Sorry TD, we all know that Capital Punishment isn't a deterrent to crime. It doesn't prevent crime, or encourage it. Thank the ACLU for supplying me with a comeback.

that's not the issue

read the Onion Field and get back to me

Just like the discredited argument that three strikes laws increase murder?

I have registered with this forum, because I feel the urge to speak to some American about the news of frequent executions in the US and the reported lack of useful medication for it.

I don't bother too much about the death penalti that has it pros and cons.

But how in the world could a decent and serious country be unable to execute a person properly without cramps, and gasping?

Your own laws forbid cruel and unusual penalties. Please get honorable, decent and true, and change the laws, if you want to give evil felons a hard time dying for 40 Minutes. Anything else is bigotry und is a public disgrace for the U.S. that I have to read in the media all the time. And it upsets me.

Midazolam is a benzodiazepine. These replaced the much more toxic barbiturates, just because it is very hard to kill a human with that. Hydromorphone, well, is clumsy at best in my view.

Why don't you just gas people to death decently, effectively and cheaply with inert gas (Argon, Nitrogen)?

But a country that sent a rocket to the moon with astronauts and isn't able to kill a human being? That is so far beyond ridiculousness, it sheds a very, very bad light on your nation.

Jews don't seem to have any problems with the Old Testament.

Odd, isn't it? You'll find just as much crazy stuff in the Torah as in the Quran. And yet, no Jewish suicide bombers that I'm aware of. Or beheading and whatnot.

It's almost like the words in the book aren't actually the key factor.

I'm all for punishment...I simply fail to see how killing someone for killing someone is ever justified. We are not God.

It ensures they will never, ever kill again.

I have zero sympathy for him. He got what he deserved.

Murdering people is not civilized.

I agree with you 100%. This is why I'm opposed to murder...be it the cold-blooded killer or the government executioner. Yes....those men were assholes. They deserved to be punished severely. But state-sanctioned killing is just as wrong as the act that the murderers committed.
