Dr. Dao's criminal background

They had 4 employees who had to be on the flight in order to make it to work on another flight in the morning.

We do not know that. The four may have been returning home.

Not according to the article I read (it was in the NY Times IIRC)

The article also said that if the 4 did not get on the flight, then the flight they were supposed to work on the following morning would have to be cancelled

It's all about who signs the paychecks....and how the corporate heads want their employees to project the corporate interests. Media outlets are selling a product, not reporting hard news. Hard news takes too much critical thinking. People who have the job of creating opinions and beliefs "for others to subscribe to" seems to be the current trend in the media.

In this case the production company signs all the checks (so to speak)....they are responsible for the content they created.

Considering that they were selling victim culture here it will be somewhat ironic if they get jammed up for poor quality victim fawning...I put it that way because I am not sure what America thinks about this controversy.

We should meet up sometime and talk about truth and the media...two of my fav subjects...... but this is not the venue.

Only white victims can be fawned on. Anyone else has their character traduced, and every misdemeanour since childhood raked over for public consumption as a perverted justification for their ill-treatment. Be it by a cop or a vigilante racist neighborhood watchman.

United's Contract of Carriage doesn't address this circumstance so I'd suggest that United does not have the right to remove a paying passenger in favor of their own staff.

It's really not the passenger's problem.

And further United had other options to relocate the crew. They could have put them on a later flight, used another carrier. Hell for what they're going to pay in damages they could've chartered a Gulfstream business jet and got them there in style.

United is responsible for denying Dao his seat on the plane but his injuries? Unless United directed the police to injure the Doctor I can't see how United can be held responsible for the airport police's behavior.

I agree.

Does knowing this influence your thoughts about the UAL incident?

David Dao: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know | Heavy.com

Not even a little bit. Character assassination will not erode the credibility of his story. We have multiple videos from multiple angles showing what happened. What happened is unacceptable whether Dao is a convicted rapist or a saint. From United's perspective, his only "crime" was buying a ticket and taking a seat.

You are right for once Manc. If you become a victim I will fawn over you regardless of your skin tone. Promise.

It was done in their name, at their request.

I think UAL has no moral or legal arguement (regardless of fine print on the ticket) to stand on. In this day of everyone filming everything, you would think that someone would have thought this through a little further. I do not think the doctor's past should factor into this incident. We have long done away with 'scarlet letters'. So how would UAL know that he was undesirable?
On a side note, according to the legal team, the doctor sufferered, among other things, a concussion and he has no memory of anything that happened after being physically removed from the flight. In one video he seems to have had a death grip on a cell phone in his left hand, can a person do that losing consciousness?

Yow. Serious timeline issues. ^

Just making an observation. It is surely in the interest of the law firm to make any injuries as graphic and serious as possible, more money in damages. There are two separate issues here. SEPERATE! The first is the treatment of a seated, ticketed passenger. Anyone who has flown since 9/11 has watched the airline industry rape, rob and pillage the flying public, both financially and with the bare minimum of customer service. There are exceptions to all broad statements. The second issue is the criminal justice system. Once a person has been wronged, real or imagined there is a legion of attorneys ready to sally forth and reap justice and a healthy percentage of the settlement. I don't have the answer for the legal system, the airline industry needs to take a long look in the mirror. The fact that the passenger, in this case, has one of the partners that the law firm is named for doesn't bode well for UAL. Does anyone know if airlines carry some sort of insurance for this type of law suit?

WTH?

1st. He had a concussion, he was not unconsciousness (der, did you think that one through?) *after* they violently assaulted him, and the phone he held (death grip? really?) was before the assault happened, and he was not in any way belligerent or unruly, other than to stand his ground, and say no, I'm not giving up my seat.

are you insane? He didn't make up those injuries -- and he spent three ****ing days in the hospital from that brutality.

Finally something we can agree on.

Dude. Seriously?

What the heck do you think?
