Crappy Cops: It's That Time Again.

It wasn't clear, unless I missed it, that the officer ever gave an order to exist the car.

That said, I always follow a cops orders/requests. I have never heard one that was unreasonable and if they want to stop me and ask me some stupid questions or even hinder my day I don't act like a dick and talk about Nazi Germany... I just answer their questions. They are not compiling data for the NSA. They will ask some questions, I will answer and I will be on my way.

Precisely. Most of the time they are just gathering a clearer picture. People fail to realize they becoming confrontational usually makes other people confrontational.

I am going to have to go with the citizen on this one.

The man was a private investigator and he was code 5. That mean he was on a stake out or something similar.

Even though the citizen had his hands in plain sight all through this, the officer still pulled his weapon and had it out the whole time.

If the officer would have asked a few more questions about who he was, this might have gone differently.

You heard in the video that this citizen had just gotten done with a similar case against this same department shortly before this incident, so I would guess from that case he knew how to handle these situations.

It seems like the officer definitely needs more training.

I wonder what the fall out from this was.

You should your ass on the line everyday before you go call other people a sissy.

I have walked many of the same tough streets alone, without back-up and without a gun... so, what else do you have?

I don't understand the total lack of respect that so many people seem to have for police officers. If you know that cops have guns and sometimes they go beyond the boundaries of why they should, why don't you just do what the guy tells you? At the end of the day, you're recording it so if you get out of vehicle or tell the cop what you are doing sitting in a car probably watching people, you most likely will have a much better time than basically telling the cop to **** off and that you aren't gonna listen to his orders. The guy obviously wanted to antagonize the officer with his taunting about a prior run in he had and then he refuses to get out of the vehicle. You would be cautious too if you were an officer who had to do this daily not knowing what kind of lunatic you just went up to.

Because people don't consent to them being there in the first place.

Is this the basement? Not showing for me.

Oooppss... no. I have 26 replies that I am responding to and they are all over the place.

Well, I have a confession to make.

I am on my fifth week of Citizen's Police Academy. Looking forward to graduation after which I will become a reserve/auxiliary police officer in my town.

Cop hater's can kiss my ass.

That is all.

I'm surprised they excepted me at my age. But I had a lot of training in my background so I guess they decided to give the old man a try.

OK, you are a self proclaimed tough guy that all of us wimpy folks should aspire to.

I grew up in Roxbury/Dorchester Mass during the whitie - blackie gang hatred thingy in the late 60's and early 70's, and used to run errands for Bulger's bookie. Did a few stints in "Youthy" as a result of my actions.

You are right, I and others could never match up to your level of bravado and self assurance.

I don't know what led up to the confrontation, but this guy is a total jerk and was just begging, in fact likely provoking the police officer. I believe his belligerence and deliberate refusal to cooperate in any way with the officer was sufficient cause for suspicion and extreme caution on the part of the police officer. Certainly the officer's fellow officers, black, white, Hispanic, did not have a problem with the officer.

I would be the first to say there are rogue, unprofessional, and bad cops. But they are far outnumbered by the good ones. With friends and relatives who are cops, and knowing the crap they take every day just doing their jobs as well as they can, I would rule on the side of the young officer every time based on no more than we saw in that video.

Don't say that to some of the regulars on here though.

You said walk in their shoes... or something like that. I have done close and responded. Now you insult me over it?

Thank you. But my duties will be limited to things like traffic control, (accidents, parades, etc.,) weather issues, parking, intake and desk sitting and probably as much paperwork they can legally pawn off on me. LOL! (You might be surprised to know our cops spend 65-75% of their time doing paperwork.) I will not be a gun-totin', "On the ground mother****er" kind of cop. That is beyond my abilities. I wanted to set the record straight as I would never try to steal their valor. I will just be a reserve/auxiliary police person. Just one step above a "mall-cop." LOL!

He was clam but he escalated the situation by being a jerk and refusing to comply with the officer. He could have literally just said that he was a PI working a case and shown him his license and the whole thing would have been over in 5 seconds.

He doesn't have to do any of that because the cop rolled up on him and immediately grabbed him.

How much time do they spend training you to beat the crap out of unarmed citizens while you shout "drop your weapon"?

That's Week 9. I'll let you know then.

Right now we are drilling medium risk and high risk traffic stop procedures.

No the cop only grabbed him because he started focusing on the cops weapon

My understanding is that a lot of reserves still carry guns? Are you more like the service techs then? They don't have nearly enough of those.

If I were in charge of a large department I think I would require all officers to start st that level.
