I dont know if any of you have been watching this show, but its an interesting insight into policing, and there have been highs and lows. Basically, they have live tv crews riding along with police in 6 different states, and they jump around to whatever is going on, from DUI checkpoints to arrest illegals on the border to domestic abuse calls. Some interesting observations

1. Bridgeport, CT pulled out because they thought it made them look bad. There were a lot of domestic and stupid people calls and tons of crime. At one point they showed a mother learning her baby had died, and the cop was crying.
2. 99% drug stops. the cops smell weed A LOT, which they appear to use as a precursor to searching people and cars and nearly always find drugs, guns, intent to sell. so much time wasted on non violent crimes
3. The Tulsa gang unit was a feature and Tulsa pulled out after a local man and the local "Cops are Racist" group accused a cop of profiling him for seeing him at a gas station and humorously asking what he had in his trunk. Another point they rolled up on a shots fired call, and there was a body in the driveway. people were upset about showing that live before medical examiners even notified family
4. They get in some really tense moments, like when they investigated 4 guys in a car, started to detain them, one ran, and tried to pull a gun. the police tackled him and wrestled for the gun for a few minutes
5. privacy is questionable. this must be very embarrassing being pulled over for DUI and being on national tv. how does the govt get away with it?

I used to enjoy watching Cops. But doing it live sounds like a really, really bad idea. Don't you have to blur out people's faces who don't sign a release waiver or are minors? Can't do that if it is live.

Holy crap that sounds amazingly real. And the cops are going to be on their best behavior knowing that it's on t.v.

I'm mostly interested in investigative shows. Cold cases especially. Shows like Cops or "True Stories of the Highway Patrol" are a little to simple-minded for my tastes.

They seem to have done it in the videos they have uploaded. Maybe there is an exception for live content but if it is not waivers are required.

I just started watching a show on Netflix called You are Under Arrest, it is essentially Canadian Cops.

I dont know. A lot of it takes place in public, so maybe they dont have to. But Ive heard instances where they have. Regardless the results are interesting. Lots of driving around, drunk people, and surprisingly a lot of people with suspended licenses.

I've seen the show but got the impression that it wasn't exactly being broadcast live. They set it up to look that way but my take is that the incidents are all prerecorded.

It ranges from live to short delay to stuff recorded earlier in the week, since they are with them all week. There was a 80 mile chase through Columbia, SC last week after a robbery, the guys ditched in a Lexus dealership and a manhunt ensued. That was certainly live as it was being reported in news at same time. Really though, im more interested in the how the cops are doing their job, and how the public is reacting.
