California Democrats are pushing a new state bill that would lower the penalties for knowingly spreading HIV from a felony to a misdemeanor. They say that punishing people who knowingly spread HIV around is discriminatory, and may be hateful against the LGBT community. Well lesbians don't spread AIDS so that's a little ridiculous.

Answer that when it is your child dying from the disease. What is next. Poisoning someone to death should be a misdemeanor. How about a drunk driver killing a few children at the bus stop, Misdemeanor? Knowingly bringing Ebola into the country and spreading it among unsuspecting people, misdemeanor. Better yet bringing terrorist into our country and letting them blow up one of our schools, misdemeanor.

Carrying a gun to protect yourself and family, felony.

Not just California democrats. I think they are spread all across the country. The last one I talked to believes that the solution to ISIS is a hug. I offered to buy him a plane ticket to test that sound theory. I probably would get charged with a felony for purposely killing the mentally challenged if he accepted.

Personally, I think spreading HIV id est taking the risk of spreading it is serious enough premeditated violence to land the perp in jail for life.
Why, even spreading Herpes should be punishable by at least seven years and the perp's property should go to the victims.

In some states it carries a murder 1 charge with the possibility of the death penalty.
If this is the case it is a miscarriage of justice if I have ever seen.

Homosexuals who are clean should be afraid. Right now there is a huge explosion of std in the community.
In fact Atlanta is one of the worst states. 1 in 4 adults has aids.

Most of it coming from the homosexual community.

No. It's only discriminatory if you believe LGBT people have a harder time telling the truth, which I don't think they do.

The reason we have this for HIV and not other diseases is because HIV is both deadly and also nearly 100% preventable. But I've always said I'd support extending this to anti-vaxxers whose kids die because they exposed them to diseases, personally.

Intentionally giving someone a disease which will cost them hundreds of thousands of dollars at best, and outrightly kill them at worst, should absolutely be a felony.

I know someone whose partner lied to him about having HIV actually. Guess what? He was straight. She believed HIV was a "conspiracy" and refused to take her meds. I think she's dead from AIDS now. But he was lucky, and is still HIV negative.

This isn't just about gay people, because more than just gay people have HIV.

Right, the article says that 95% of individuals charged in California with knowingly spreading HIV are sex workers, the majority of which are women I'm assuming. The people who claim the law is discriminatory against LGBT folks are just trying to drum up support from them.

We're talking about a state so utterly screwed up that it prioritizes the subsidy of unruly non-citizen aliens over things like law, maintaining viable infrastructure (even when the breakdown of said infrastructure could potentially endanger the lives of tens of thousands), and producing enough water and electricity to keep its population from experiencing brown-outs.

Should anything these whackjobs do really be surprising?

They torch their own cities when people - overwhelmingly from other parts of the country - vote for candidates they happen to dislike in free and fair elections, for God's sakes.

What surprised me, is how stupid people here have become. Last November, the voters passed several tax increases, plus a law that will let more people out of prison, after a previous law from 2014 increased violent crime in Los Angeles by 10% in one year.

That's not true at all. Firstly, Atlanta's HIV rate is nowhere near that dire. There's about 5 million people in Atlanta, and about 30,000 HIV cases.

Atlanta is still one of the worst cities in the US, by far. But it is multi-factorial, and not just "coming from the homosexuals." I mean, how would that even work? Only 2% of people are gay, but you think they've somehow infected 25% of the population? How, exactly? :lol:

The explosion of HIV rates is partly down to bad public health. Georgia is a rather poor and dysfunctional state, and a lot of them don't have access to new medications that help reduce transmission. This increases transmission not just between gay people, but also straight people, and from mother-to-child.

Georgia is also a very unequal state, and as a result of that, the poor -- and especially the black poor -- have high transmission rates due to lack of education.

And finally, Georgia is suffering the same suburban heroin epidemic that the entire country is suffering. So some infections are coming from the dramatic increase in IV drug use. And due to the aforementioned poor public health, addicts often don't have any access to clean needles or addiction treatment programs.

While gay men do make up a relatively large percentage of HIV infections in the West, they are far from the only people affected. Black communities, the poor, women, and addicts are all badly affected.

Gay men, who are about 1% of the population according to your own estimate, make up the overwhelming majority of new HIV diagnosis every year. I don't know who can honestly claim 'lack of education' in 2017 about HIV and AIDS. Someone would have to had never attended school, or never paid attention in school, in order to have never been properly educated about HIV and who's at risk.

You evidently don't understand how aides is transmitted.
In order to get it one first has to have it.

If one female has it and has sex with another female she can tranmitt it.
The rate in this is low because most carriers are men and drug users.

If a women is a full lesbian she isn't sleeping with men.
Bi-sexuals are at higher risk.

A lesbian who does drugs is at a higher rate of exposure more so if they are sharing needles.
 
Wasn't it liberals that put in place these punishments in the first place? I can't help but find it interesting that the liberal capital of the US now wants to cut back those punishments for the behavior.

It isn't really of interest for this topic, why the people knowingly infect others with diseases. It is severely criminal and can easily ruin lives. Personally, I think that far worse than rape and certainly more insidious.

I think comparing things like that a bad idea. they are each bad in their own way.
what is worse is that victims of rape can get those things as well.

I don't think you can compare the two of them in any way shape or form.
both are equally as bad in there own right.

it is scary all the disease floating out there and people should be very careful who they are sleeping with.
the CDC has come out recently and said that tinder and all these other apps the hookup culture is spreading
STD at a rate never seen.

England is facing and epidemic of super gonorrhea that is resistant to antibiotics.
they have no idea how to get rid of it.

STD is certainly one aspect of the free sex experiment we started in the 1960's. It indicates the length of time that changes of societal instruments take to begin to understand their consequences. Here it is rather straightforward. But we will have to wait and see, what time will bring. The free sex behavior in Medieval bathhouses led to a backlash of centuries of prudishness, when Syphilis entered the equation.
