I am getting sick of seeing this crap.

The Grove City Division of Police arrested Brian Lee Golsby, 29, in connection with the murder of the Ohio State student . . .


Golsby had been serving a sentence after a 2010 rape and robbery case and was released last fall, according to Grove City police. They say their investigation into Golsby continues and additional charges are possible.

Convicted of rape in 2010, at age 22, and the scumbag is out already free to kill some unsuspecting college kid?


Catch and convict a rapist, don't let the POS out again until he is old and feeble...if at all.

I don't want liberal candidates. I'm quite conservative. I'm just an atheist. So, I do not like religious extremist candidates like Ted Cruz. And, I do not much buy into the scapegoating thing that Trump does. If I could find a Rand Paul type, my vote would be all over it.

Unfortunately, you cannot set the maximum penalty for rape at life imprisonment (or close)...rapists would then have no incentive to keep their victim alive and far more rape victims would be killed to eliminate eye witnesses.

I definitely think the minimum sentences for rape has to go WAY up though.

I'd say a 20 year sentence with minimum of 15 years served. This guy was out in less than 6.

Proof once again that prisons are an outdated waste of time. Send a boy into prison and he will come out a man who does not give a crap.

Your solution is just as ridiculous. If such was the case then criminals might as well go all the way and rampage and murder anyone because all crime gets the same time. Why hold back when killing your victim will not receive any more harsher a sentence than just rape and has the added bonus of removing the only witness to the crime.

Meaning that it would make no difference if he just raped her and left her alive or raped her and then killed her. No difference in the sentencing as according to your wishes he will be locked away for life. A big difference for the well being of the raped though.

Yeah, because it was "just rape" that sent him to prison in the first place. Maybe instead of locking him up, they should have given him an all expenses paid vacation to Daytona Beach during Spring Break. :roll:

NZ trouble is we have a right wing government bent on ignoring even the fact that america is moving away from private run prisons. A silly idea considering they have no interest in rehabilitation. In fact the opposite, recidivism is profitable for them.
 
Everybody in the thread just accepts the police assertion that he is the killer. They say DNA evidence, but who knows, it was worded vaguely. Nothing else of substance, just their word, and everybody blindly accepts it.

Sadly some of these things will happen if one believes in rehabilitation after a serious crime, but sex crimes should be punished harder than 4 or 5 years. I think sex fiends who are a high risk should have to follow psychiatric evaluation and treatment.

Definitely. As I said in the op, I am sick and tired of seeing these rapists getting these short sentences and then killing someone within a year of being released.

Sadly it is the nature of the US penal system. Don't get me wrong, this kind of thing can happen in the Netherlands too, but our jails usually are not warehousing dangerous criminals in multi person cells or even complete dorms of prisoners. With people being locked up like animals, in tight quarters with equal or even worse criminals.

In the Netherlands it is possible to keep a dangerous rapist in jail for years and years more after his prison sentence if he is deemed a dangerous predator (due to mental/psychological issues).

Then there is the issue that there is little or no attention (in a lot of jails) for successfully reintroducing people back into societies (with work, stable home situations).

PS. I am not saying that jails have to be comfortable hotel room like places, but there is a difference between creating caged animals and imprisoning people.

We waste a lot of resources jailing non-violent dopers. In fact, someone caught growing pot will probably serve a minimum of 3x more prison time than a rapist.
