Florida sheriff’s deputy accused of trying to kill elderly woman he stole dog from and defrauded - CBS News

Knight said when the woman entrusted Bybee -- an 18-year agency veteran -- with her dog, the deputy sold the dog through Craigslist.

Knight said Bybee was placed on administrative leave earlier this month after the deputy’s fingerprint was found on checks totaling $65,000 that the victim said had been fraudulently signed.

After alerting officials to Bybee fradulently cashing checks in her name, he allegedly tried to kill the woman by forcing her to take pills.
Bybee allegedly then tried to cover up her death by leaving the door from her house to the garage open with the car running, fulling the home with carbon monoxide.

I think its absolutely terrifying that this POS can stay hidden on the force as a normal person until he became a police veteran.

That kinda leads me to another topic... Retirement and Elderly homes.. These people are extremely vulnurable and we should have auditors speaking to EVERY SINGLE elderly person 1 on 1 to make sure no staff are abusing them.

But, but, I thought all cops are heroes? At least I thought.

I remember one POS back in the 70's was a serial rapist murderer. He was using his uniform and car to pull over young woman and raping and killing them.

Maybe he was a normal person and got messed up by 18-year as a police officer. Maybe he just suffered some kind of sudden psychological breakdown. Who knows but I don’t think we’re in a position to just to any conclusions. Luckily he was caught before any further harm was caused and hopefully the courts will get to the bottom of it and deal with him appropriately. I’m not sure what more there is to say about cases like this.

He probably started off small time. Take money here and their from small time drug dealers, and without retribution punish the ones who cry . Then one day he realized he could **** over completely innocent people using this position of extra trust. I dont think you fall into a pre-meditated state like this because of 1 or 2 shocking incidents. This guy was sane enough to remain hiding within his own police force yet crazy enough to plot this crazy ****.

If he wouldnt of flubbed and has his fingerprint on the forged check he never woulda been caught.

Becaues elderly people are so vulnerable i think we need a special volunteer protection for them. Because they are so vulnerable it would be very easy for a sociaphathic hostile to infiltrate and only abuse when they couldnt get caught. And people disregard elderly complaints more because its easier to say "They arent thinking clearly". I think if a elderly person feels abused they should have INSTANT rescue wether there is proof of abuse or not. The elderly person feels uncomfortable and that is more than enough for me to enact these special rescue powers. Like witness protection for retirement homes or any elderly with a guardian/guardians that take care of them.

We shouldnt gamble on if these elderly are confused or trying to get some skewed tattle tale revenge. We should rescue these vulnerable people INSTANTLY and ask questions later.

Hey Chris, I own a home in Sarasota. I posted a thread on this story about 10 hours ahead of yours. Sheriff Knight had already demoted Deputy Bybee from Detective to Patrolman for prior shenanigans. You can access the LEO forum for further details. Bybee has a pending lawsuit filed almost two years ago against Knight involving burglary of an RV. Even if the alleged senior citizen victim had died, Bybee appears to have demonstrated utter idiocy by leaving a trail of obvious evidence... for instance, the forged checks reportedly written payable to Bybee's three children. I don't expect Bybee's problems to go away anytime soon.
