GUN FIGHT: Breaking Down the Dixie Gun & Pawn Robbery

The robbers had the element of surprise on their side when they attacked a rural Georgia gun shop, so how were they so quickly and decisively routed?

The way it needs to be done. Excellent outcome.

Yes, very well done.
Oh and for the time line, people need to understand that LEO's often get the same or even shorter time line to make life and death decisions. Yes, center mass shots will do the trick every time. Use the following method I was taught to make center mass shots become more natural:
Put up a target (torso type) onto a 2 X 4 with the 4 inch side centered with the center line of the target, then put an old shirt over the target and stand it up.
Then try placing all your rounds as close to center mass as possible. You would be surprised how many cannot get their groupings within this 4 inch wide zone.
Once you can do this regularly, make another target setup, but this time turn the 2 X 4 so that the 2 inch side faces forward. When you can regularly keep your groups in the 2 inch wide area you are there, when it comes to properly placing your rounds. Practice this enough and you will definitely have an edge. at least in round placement.
I will also add for the uninformed, Law Enforcement Officers are not normally trained to shoot to kill a perp, they are trained to end the threat in the quickest manner possible and as you can see in the film above it did exactly that.
Try it if you believe it is easy, but I will say if you have not tried it, it can be fun, especially if you have a bunch of friends and family shooting together, last time I did with a bunch the ladies did far better than the men, maybe it was the wife beater tank top shirts I used, but whatever the reason they owned the guys that day:mrgreen:

Good info....thanks for your input.

Impressive.

Who the hell robs a gun store???

I've got to echo: "Who the hell pulls off an armed robbery of a gun store?" :doh

But that first shot by the owner was some heavy hit! The article thinks it might have been spinal, but whatever it was put him out. I was thinking: What the hell caliber and weight of a handgun slug can do that?

I've always heard .45 ACP can drop a man, punching him back.

Anyway, the article had a great quote from a guy that greatly appreciated the .45 ACP - Jeff Cooper:

"You aren’t any more armed by buying a gun than you are a musician because you bought a piano. To be any good, you’re going to need training, and you’re going to need to practice."

I think it's a great quote!

Cooper was deemed the Father of Modern Pistol Craft. He really knew his ****. I talked with him in 1987 in Reno, Nv.

As the 9mm developed, Cooper came around to accepting that round as a pretty good stopper. However, shot placement is key. I've studied investigations where a guy took five .45acp rounds(4 to the torso) and ran off and died about 2 minutes later. Some go into shock from a .22 hit and the sight of their own blood. You keep shooting until the threat has ceased, I've taught that for many years.
To put that guy down like that, it had to be a hit to his brain or spine. At any rate, good shooting under stress.

I can hear the crooks now...
