Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck said Monday that he has no plans to change the LAPD’s stance on immigration enforcement, despite President-elect Donald Trump’s pledge to toughen federal immigration laws and deport millions of people upon taking office.

For decades, the LAPD has distanced itself from federal immigration policies. The LAPD prohibits officers from initiating contact with someone solely to determine whether he or she is in the country legally, mandated by a special order signed by then-chief Daryl Gates in 1979.

In violation of Federal Law. Clearly, the LAPD is no longer the elite organization it once was. No wonder so many decent folks are moving out of LA.

They are following their mandated act from 1979. Wasn't that the year that Cheech was deported from East LA?

Immigration is a Federal Organization. The vehicles in CA are painted a sickly green color. They used to come onto the job sites unannounced. They always caught Chencho. He was always back in 4 days.

The LAPD is not part of ICE.

But local law enforcement, where ever they are, enforce Federal Laws, as well as state and local laws.

When I worked as a police officer in California, and Oregon......I arrested hundreds of illegals over the years and held them for Border Patrol. I would go to restaurants, hotels, motels, farms and ranches and check for green cards. Same for traffic stops. Did I profile? You bet I did. Did I Stop and Frisk? You bet I did. It's called proactive policing.

Then Trump should work with Congress to block all federal funding to Los Angeles.

No federal funds for the LAPD, none for homelessness, none for infrastructure, none for emergency preparedness, none for transportation - absolutely no funding.

Calling yourself a "sanctuary city" should have consequences.

In this case it would cost LA several billion dollars a year, roughly a quarter of the city's budget.

Sorry Mick. I'm just not buying that you personally arrested "hundreds of illegals over the years". Do you think that you may have exaggerated the total a little bit?

I will buy that you profiled and stopped and frisked. You call it proactive policing. I call it being a Bigot. That Police forces tend to attract your type of Cop is understandable.
