DALLAS (CBSDFW) – “We are all worried for our safety. We are all on edge and being very careful.” said Dallas Polce Chief David Brown at a Monday press conference following the deadly shooting that took the lives of 5 Dallas Police officers Thursday night.

Saying he was “running on fumes,” Brown spoke frankly about everything that his employees have to deal with on a daily basis – and that it can be overwhelming at times.

I agree.

Schools shouldn't be calling the cops to handle run of the mill discipline problems.

Cops aren't properly trained to handle people with mental illnesses.

We are asking them to do things they aren't trained to do. Too often they are on patrol alone rather than with a partner. They need more resources, better training, and better compensation.

That's pretty laughable considering we ask so little from cops in the first place and they don't often meet what little we ask of them. The Dallas situation has the cops bleeding their hearts out all over the place and whining up a storm. It's completely ridiculous. Cops don't give two ****s when they gun down unarmed people or beat the crap out of people who aren't even resisting. This sappy schtick might work on the ignorant but the cops have been abusing their authority for so long that I'm finding it hard to see why police are deserving of my sympathy.

I'd be fine with 2/3. Of those. Cops are already well paid and throwing money at a situation via pay increases doesn't stop corruption. If that were the case then every CEO would be Mr. Rogers or Mother Theresa.

The average starting salary is around 40K.

That is a bull**** wage for what they do.

No, it's pretty good considering they get government supported pensions, government supported healthcare, and minimal accountability once they're in. Furthermore many move from one department to another so that they can get pension from one department and then pension from another department. It's a very sweet gig.
