New police radars can 'see' inside homes

New police radars can 'see' inside homes

There's no doubt in my mind this will be abused. Police safety my ass. Next thing these peeping pervs will be peering in people bedrooms.

They can't SEE inside the house. The thing can just detect humans. They have had heartbeat sensors for years. They also have lasers that can read vibration on glass to listen in on conversations. They can tap your mic or phone or camera or iPhone. If you have work issued equipment they can ask your employer and not you.

This isn't so much news as stating the obvious.

Little did you guys realize that your freedom has been eroding during the last decade.

"Little" did WHO realize it? Libertarians and the Tea Party folks have been banging this drum since Bush pressed for passage of the patriot act.

I smell inferiority complex in disguise, it could be from the cops or it could be from those in Singapore  hell if I knew.

LOLololol (it was too short)

The Constitution just prevents the information from being used against you in court. It doesn't keep people from doing it.

WTF? Where do you get this idea?

Activate "we the people" to uphold your constitution.

It can't produce a picture. It just detects movement. If you think this is a privacy concern try actually reading the terms of use on your apps. You have at least 2 that have permission to record video and sound without your knowledge.

Think of what you back up to a cloud, then realize cloud services cooperate with law enforcement willingly and thus cops don't need a search warrant to look through your information; which isn't technically yours anymore since you agree that anything you send to the cloud becomes the property of the cloud.

It's a little late to be worrying about radar motion-detectors.

Doesn't mean I have to be in favor of it.

If you have any kind of smart phone or tablet, then yeah, this does mean you have to support it, because you already approve of much worse.

Whatever, Jerry, you look like you're on another one of your crusades.

Not possible, this isn't a gun thread.

You just don't have room to complain about cops using a motion detector when you have a GPS tracker in your pocket that can record you with video and sound without your knowledge and give all of that information to the authorities without a search warrant or probable cause.

Officer safety is the only thing that matters. Didn't you know that?

You how much privacy and other rights can be violated in the name of safety?

That's because I chose to have it in my pocket, Jerry, I CHOSE TO HAVE IT THERE. I don't get to choose whether cops sit out on the street and peer into my house looking around for who knows what without a warrant. When I install an app on my phone I am asked whether to give up privacy or not.

You say that like it means something.

I don't get to choose whether cops sit out on the street...
You realize this device has to be put up against the wall, right? It has to make direct physical contact with the wall. See the video in your link, time mark 00:23 "...the officer stands outside the building, places it on the wall like a stud finder...".Where the are you getting the idea that this can be used by someone on the street?

...and peer into my house...
This doesn't produce a picture. It can't. Do you even know how radar works? This is very close to a typical radar gun cops use to catch you speeding (by detecting movement), only it's telescoped to pass through a solid wall and detect movement.

looking around for who knows what without a warrant.
This can't look around. It can't create a picture. All it can do is detect movement. It can't even tell what's moving.

When I install an app on my phone I am asked whether to give up privacy or not.
For apps you install. But for the apps that are already on your phone, the compose the OS and core components that you cannot uninstall and that your phone will not work without, if you don't give those apps your permission, then you don't have a smartphone at all.

Then has to be using ultrasound, because I never heard of a radar that needs to be placed against something. I think you're lonely and just want to argue this morning.

They didn't need to do that, there's already a secret camera in my shower head, one inside my television, and black helicopters circling over our block 24/7.

This device uses radar, not ultrasound.

RANGE-R® is a highly sensitive handheld radar system designed to detect and measure the distance to moving and near-stationary personnel through walls constructed of common building materials. Designed to increase situation awareness in urban environments for its users, RANGE-R provides vital intelligence necessary to safely undertake a variety of law enforcement and search and rescue operations.
For Christ's sake look at the pictures of the device, it shows the officer a number. Not a picture, a number, the distance to the motion.

...because I never heard of a radar that needs to be placed against something.
Yes you have. You even made a thread about such devices.
