Russian air force plane lands in Venezuela

Then again, the Kremlin would like to have a base of operations in South America. A short hop away from Cuba (where a Russian warship is docked right now).

It's an easy way to project power, irritate Washington, and feel-out other soft-spots in this hemisphere.

They're propping up a client that owes Beijing ~$20 billion and Moscow ~$3 billion.

The Spetznaz troops are probably under orders to guard Nicholas Maduro from internal and external threats.

There is no guarantee Juan Guaido will honor the Chavez/Maduro debts, so it's important that Moscow keep Maduro in power for a while.

The Kremlin wants Maduro to survive long enough to pay off his arrears via oil for debt swaps.

So what do we do about it?

When the Guaido coup attempt in April failed, Trump lost interest.

Nothing to be done except maintain an eye on the internal situation, and keep seeking humanitarian inroads.

I didn't ask what Trump did. I asked what should be done. You should be able to answer that without referencing Trump.

TASS stated "military specialists" and it was a RFAF plane, not a common carrier passenger airliner.

You know very well this is an impossible demand. Much like demanding someone produce evidence of why a plane of CIA paramilitary personnel landed somewhere and their orders.

States do not comment on the motives of such comings and goings.

It may be an impossible demand, but the reality is without more info on what is going on all we have is speculation. They could be advising on matters of intelligence, they could be doing all sorts of sinister things. But we do not know.

Don’t get me wrong I do not have any more interest in supporting Russia than you do, but something other than a couple paragraphs by Reuters is not enough to get upset about.

What happened to the Monroe doctrine?

And I told you. Do you suffer from some sort of comprehension malady?

What do YOU think should be done?

I endeavor to keep the DP audience - members and guests alike - appraised of what Czar Putin is up to.

Oftentimes I have to settle for presenting information that's less than optimal because I suspect few here at DP can read either Ukrainian or Russian sources.

And again for the record, I genuinely like the Russian people. They are friendly, intelligent, inquisitive, and hospitable.

And I told you. Do you suffer from some sort of comprehension malady?

. . . and you felt you needed to reference Trump in so doing, just like I said. I think the comprehension problem here is . . . not mine.

What do YOU think should be done?

I'm not the one sounding the alarm.

As for Russian planes landing in Caracas, there's little TO be done.

You don't run **** here or get to censor anyone. Bugger off.

 I never claimed to run anything, nor did I attempt to "censor" you. This is bizarre.

Apparently, you think robust critique is "censorship." That's pretty childish.

Whatever Harshaw. I've dealt with you before. It's just not worth the hassle.

You just don't like vigorous challenges to your posts. "Censoring" you, indeed.

Not at all. As in dealing with TAAC, one gets tired of all the lies, specious claims, and whataboutisms.

Seeing as I offer none of those, that's just your childish excuse.

If you don't want challenge, stick to the Democratic Underground.
