Currently a US-supported coup ongoing in Venezuela?

The riots I speak of long precede the sanctions and were the catalyst for sanctions to begin in the Obama administration.

So, no.

DaveFagan is not correct.

The US has been working to overthrow the government in Venezuela from the early 2000s. It did not stop during the Obama admin

As in Chile the US was trying to prevent Allende from getting elected for years, and once elected worked hard to get him out of office. Overall a multi year operation.

The same thing occurred in the Ukraine, the US had a multi year push to change the government in Ukraine to one less friendly to Russia, going back to before the Orange Revolution in 2004-05

The sanctions began due to deaths of protesters... What were the Venezuelan protesters protesting about? Among other things the lack of food and medicine.... Why was there a lack of food and medicine? Much if it was Chavez/Maduro incompetence in booting people who knew how to keep economy and production going and inserting politically "reliable" idiots and/or the military in their places. Not only the oil sector (which crippled their income) but other industries and agriculture.

As to the sanctions themselves the oil kept flowing into US ports even as the sanctions took effect.

Venezuelans ****ed the Venezuelans...

I am not sure how much political clout Sen. Rick Scott and like-minded Hawks have in Washington but this may be the next tier of escalation in the US unconventional war against Venezuela specifically and the "Troika of Tyranny" more generally. Blockades are by definition acts of war according to the US Government and freedom of navigation is an illusion unless the freedom being exercised is that of America or her close allies.

CARACAS, VENEZUELA (AP) — The latest on the political conflict in Venezuela (all times local):

7:30 p.m.

Venezuelan lawmakers say security forces have arrested the No. 2 leader in the opposition-controlled congress as political tensions mount in the crisis-wracked nation.

The lawmakers say National Assembly Vice President Edgar Zambrano was in his car when it was surrounded by heavily armed police outside his Democratic Action party's headquarters Wednesday.

Party head Carlos Prosperi says security forces towed the car away with the lawmaker still inside.

Government officials announced that Zambrano and several other lawmakers were under investigation for treason and instigating an insurrection.

Zambrano is one of nine opposition politicians who appeared with opposition leader Juan Guaidó during last week's failed attempt to encourage a military uprising against President Nicolas Maduro.

The Maduro Regime is moving up the opposition food-chain. How long before they detain the pretender Juan Guaido? What will the US and their 53 allies do, should Guaido be arrested and tried for his leading role in the recent failed coup attempt?

Cheers.

I need to go find the classified leaked document from southcom, it literally details stept by step everything that has happened since january of this year, and goes into detail of things like using proxy forces from comumbia and causing hyper inflation and food shortages to starve the venezuelan people to the point they turn on their own govt.

I will see If I can find it, it is a very good read and was made in 2018 by southcom and the specific document covered overthrowing maduros govt.

edit- here is one link to kit there are plenty more nearly all just linking the same leaked document with different commentary.

Because I don't know and saw that somewhere, I'm starting a thread on it.

Something something for the oil

If so, I hope it is successful! Personally I think it is overdue to enforce the Monroe Doctrine against Russia.

The document from SouthCom is likely a forgery. I unwisely linked to it in another thread about Venezuela while I was waiting in the hospital for an ill relative to stabilise and I did not give it a proper vetting and critical reading before I posted it. I rightfully caught hell from several other posters for my lack of due diligence and my sleep-deprived folly and had to post a retraction and apology after reading it with a clearer mind and more critical acumen. So I caution you that you may be taken to task for linking to what I now believe to be a forgery.

Post #57 is the offending post:

There are other more reliable documents which indirectly support your thesis but this one is very likely a fraudulent forgery.

I may disagree with you on many points but I truly respect your honesty.

It could very well be a forgery, to me though it seemed less like a forgery and more like a rough draft, like it was just formal enough for review but informal enough to actually be doctrine, if it was a rough draft there likely would have been changes to the final version anyways.

However this has been available since 2018 and everything in it matches to what is occuring in 2019, which does indeed make one wonder if it is truly a memo or a draft of a memo, or if a forger was just that good at guessing.

I think Donald Trump has become bored with Venezuela and its revolution.

He has the attention span of a gnat.

Kelly and mattis as well as the pentagon bigwigs opposed the plans for venezuela, while trump wanted to push forward, it is no surprise how when mattis left trump went full steam on venezuela policy. The pentagon generals as well as mattis and kelly believed a war in venezuela would be a bloodbath unworth fighting, they also believed sanctions and coup attempts would only strengthen the maduro regime. They were correct, and they and the pentagon believed that the best way to topple maduro was to do nothing and let them implode as it would turn the people against the regime, while intervention would strengthen his backing by mobilizing the populace to fight what they believe is an imperialist plot.

What you are seeing now is likely trump coming to realize the people he ignored were correct, and the people he is listening to like pompeo and bolton will march him off a cliff just to start a war no one needs. Trump also started questioning intel after the failed coup, wonder how much his advisors were lying to him, and much of his tone changed after a phone call with putin, which makes one wonder what putin said to him to make his tune change so quick, like maybe he was told russia would run away and then realized after the phone call they would be willing to fight an uphill battle, or maybe he screwed with trumps ego by calling bolton president and telling trump he was not in charge of anything.

I don't even bother with such unsubstantiated pish-posh anymore.

Likely a forgery, but maybe not.

It sure does follow the playbook for how the US has overthrown dozens of governments over many decades. And it follows/predicts the events done in the last few months including shutting off their electricity, just as they have shut off electricity and water in the Venezuelan embassy in DC.

Likely a forgery if one trusts in the honor and beneficence of the US government.

Likely quite authentic if one is honest with oneself and recognizes how wicked the US government really is.

Read it. Its a forgery. Stop letting the CT part of your brain override to reality part.

Well, well. This is interesting. Our favourite American mercenary captain has been in Venezuela, apparently trying to organise a mercenary backed coup d'etat against one part of the Maduro Regime by another part of that same regime and the "opposition". Who could have seen this coming? (Sarcasm).

"Voice of America":
"Although more than 50 countries have recognized Guaido as the legitimate President of Venezuela, he has not yet managed to turn this support into concrete victories in the fight against the regime..."
Weird. Maybe according to the Constitution of Venezuela should not 50, but 60 foreign countries choose its President and this is the whole problem?

Donald Trump:
"The United States is leading a diplomatic coalition of 59 countries against Venezuela's socialist dictator, Nicolas Maduro. Maduro is an illegitimate ruler...»
"Diplomatic coalitions".... They have replaced the UN and international law now...
