Venezuela is even worse than you have heard

The battle will be over in less than a month. They are no match for us. It is the nation building that always follows so the rich and powerful who own our government can exploit their resources. That will cost the American people billions if not trillions.

I doubt it would be over in a month, jungle warfare is nasty and venezuala is decently armed, I mean did you really think they were so broke from just social spending and that none of their watse went to arming themselves as much as possible?

In a war with them the sam sites between the s-300 and the s-125 combined with manpads and anti tank missiles would be their deadliest weapon. They also have the f-16 and su-30 jets but I doubt they have the radar and communications infrastructure to back those jets in conflict, their aircraft will likely end up like saddams running blind when the weak radar and comms network is jammed.

But if you just count ground troops, armor, manpads, and missile defence systems In conjuction with guerilla warfare it would be nearly impossible to win in a month short of them surrendering at the start or just carpet bombing the country into oblivian civilians and all. In reality unless you planned mass civilian deaths the war would go on for months before the govt fell, then possibly years or decades fighting insurgencies.

If only they had your hero Pinochet to lead them. Just need to torture and murder a few thousand dissidents and all would be well...

Sometimes I pause to wonder at the unrelenting stupidity of some comments about the tragic state of the people of Venezuela.

Maduro is Venezuela's equivalent of Salvador Allende. Castro is the common thread.

What? Maduro is much worse than Allende. No equivalence, there.

I hope not as well, venezuala does not have the means to halt a us invasion by itself, but does hold the means to make it hurt badly. They possess a metric crapton of tanks everything from antique french and british tanks to modern russian tanks, they possess a decent amount of russian su30 aircraft as well as american f-16 aircraft, they also have multiple s-300 batteries as well as one of the highest concentrations on earth of manpads, meaning if the venezualan military was even semi competent and exploited the jungle terrain, us losses would exceed the value of taking venezuala.

There is no need to "take" Venezuela. They will crumble on their own.

But we should not assume that the rank and file of the military will be willing to fight for Maduro's tyranny. There are indications that discipline is crumbling.

Their military is not sworn so much to maduro but more to the constitution, and given the small number of defects compared to other regimes it looks like so far after numerous attempts their military is loyal enough.

I think venezuala should deal with their own problems, if they dislike maduro vote him out. What is happening here is foreign nations are trying to inject a party with almost zero support as president under the guise of democracy, even though the guy is extremely unpopular and makes maduro look like the most popular person ever by comparison.

We need to quit this regime change bs and simply let them do what they will, if they keep electing maduro they can wallow in their own filth, but it is immoral to force regime change against the will of the people while claiming democracy.

Agreed. Like I said, let them crumble on their own. It's coming.
