ARA San Juan was barely stocked with food

The vessel needed to carry sufficient supplies to last seven days for all 44 crew members, but the supplies on board were not enough for everyone, according to the report.

The report concluded that the submarine had "240 units of mixed preserves, emergency rations, in thermosealed flavors;" 240 half-liter bottles of Gatorade energy drink, and two cereal bars plus two chocolate bars for every crew member.

Based on the documents submitted in the case, Carrera estimated that although the supplies covered seven days, they were adequate to feed "only 34 crew members – ten less than the missing crew," said the lawyer

Well damn, that explains why the Captain took the boat down even though he had a situation....the seas were rough and the going very slow at the surface....he had to go down to get to where they were going before everyone starved. Maybe people knew ahead of time and brought their own food but even if they did this was negligence on a scale that proves that Argentina should not even have tried to run submarines...they are not up to it.

NOTE: As I recall this mission had till a year or so before included a small surface ship, so if there was a huge problem there was a crew on the surface that could help, but these people were out there all alone...in a crappy rebuilt sub, with not enough food, with almost no experience or training most of them.... and a mechanical boss who had almost never set to sea in something like 18 years in the Navy.
