HAVANA (Reuters) - New U.S. travel restrictions and a destructive hurricane season last year sucked some air from Cuba’s tourism boom but foreign businesses from Spain’s Melia Hotels (MEL.MC) to China’s Jin Jiang are pursuing new investments in what remains a promising frontier.

According to sources with knowledge of industry figures, tourist arrivals in the first three months of the year fell to roughly 1.4 million compared with 1.5 million in the same period of 2017.

Of that figure, 177,000 people arrived by sea and spent relatively little money onshore, an increase of 38,000 from the previous year, as foreign cruise lines stepped up their visits.

The downward trend continued in April, the sources said, the tail end of the November-to-May high season in Cuba.

People will always want to visit this once forbidden country that's only 90 miles from Key West.

Cuba has always been a very beautiful place.
Hurricanes have always come and gone, but Cuba has always been beautiful.
Listening to the music from Radio Havana makes it hard to sit still in the chair.

The antique American cars alone are a reason to visit. The mysterious ill-effects that have struck US/Canadian diplomats are a reason not to visit.

Cuba would be a much more desirable tourist destination if not for US Government policy in regard to Cuba.

There was multiple US backed plans to dismantle the Cuban government, and there was the proposed Operation Northwoods cooked up by the USJCS that JFK refused to sign off for.

Cuba agreed to give up their nukes in October, 1962, and Trump still hates Cuba.

North Korea still has nukes and Trump is blowing roses up Kim un's ass.

Cuba is getting the shaft ...........

U.S. warns Cuban Americans about risks in traveling to Cuba

If you’re a Cuban American wanting to visit Cuba, be careful! The Cuban government could seize your U.S. passport, or even draft you or your children into the armed forces.

And that’s not a warning from opponents of the Obama administration’s ongoing thaw in relations with Havana. It comes straight from the U.S. Embassy in Havana.

Note the date on that article.

If you dig deep and get past the veneer fabricated by the Communists, you'll learn how painful life is for the typical Cuban. Doing so tells you what you'll be in for if the USA ever turns socialist. I double-dog dare anyone reading this to visit a Cuban town square and walk around with a sign that says "Socialismo es miseria" and see what happens. Notice that such a sign doesn't criticize Cuba in any way. Go ahead and try it; I dare ya'.

Alternate title: Despite hurricanes, communist suppression of human rights, socialist policies that have devastated the economy, and political dissidents and anyone else the Cuban Communist Government doesn't like being killed or sent to rot in jail, Cuba retains charm for foreign tourism firms and others that either don't have a clue what Cuba is, and has been for the past 60+ Years, or just doesn't care because they support such governments.

Yep, that's more accurate.

Now that's too far in the other direction. If the Cuban Communists don't like you NOWADAYS, you'll essentially be pressured to leave and not come back. The arrests have become more short term, but you do get a criminal record. The Committee for the Defense of the Revolution can pay you a "friendly" visit complete with vandalism to remind you who's in charge and bust heads if they have to come back. Things have improved in Cuba, but they still stink.

Yes. That article appeared 2 years ago. Nice catch, Kal.

Yep. In November just before elections. Yet for some odd reason people are acting like this is something new and Trump is doing it for....hell...I don't know. Because its Trump and TDS?
