Cuba launches process of replacing Raul Castro as president - Chicago Tribune

Cuba on Wednesday launched the daylong process of selecting Raul Castro's successor as president of Cuba, the centerpiece of an effort to ensure that the country's single-party system outlasts the aging revolutionaries who created it.

State media said the government would announce Castro's replacement on Thursday, installing someone from outside the Castro family in the country's highest government office for the first time in nearly six decades.

Raul Castro's successor as president will be 57-year-old First Vice President Miguel Mario Diaz-Canel Bermudez of the ruling Communist Party.

86 year old Raul Castro will remain as the head of the Communist Party, designated by the constitution as "the superior guiding force of society and the state."

Hopefully move on like China did from being a strict communist country to one that promotes a higher level of capitalism. China did so after Mao left this world, Cuba could do it after the Castro's do

Not sure what difference it will make.

Unforunately, China recently took moves to install their current president for life.

Rather stupid, but the current president from what I gather is popular with many Chinese due to the crackdown on corruption he has worked on getting enforced. Expensive restaurants in many major cities have seen a drastic drop in business from the drop in politicians and businessmen not being able to bribe each other with $400 lunches among other gifts.
