DP commentators have been vocal in their criticism and condemnation of the Maduro government's alleged efforts to thwart democracy in Venezuela but those same commentators have been strangely silent on the efforts of the Hernandez government's attempts to suppress a popular revolt against alleged and widespread electoral fraud committed by the Honduran Election Commitee (Supreme Electoral Tribunal -TSE) in last week's election.

Things became very odd indeed after it looked like the challenger, Nasralla, had a five point lead in the polls, before open vote counting was suspended by the tribunal and the results were rapidly reversed despite more than 60% of the votes having been already counted before the suspension. The in-camera count reversed the vote tallying in two days of questionable behaviour by the TSE. A general protest has triggered martial law and curfews but significant segments of the police and COBRA anti-terrorism paramilitaries are refusing to enforce the president's curfew.
So why the noise about Venezela but silence about Honduras? Could it be that the incumbent in Honduras (who is arguably running illegally in violation of term limits laws which were quickly overturned) is a US puppet placed into power back in 2009 by a US-backed coup and is therefore an acceptable practioner of electoral fraud? I am curious.
Cheers.
